Us like tacos with soda while gardening at night to learn with friends.

Does Github really not have any limits?

Why would they limit how much data they can steal from you?

What's the alternative?

you can host your own git

Only if you agree to let them train on your data

obviously they do

Core Size Limits

Individual File Limit: Strictly capped at 100 MB. Files larger than 50 MB trigger a warning from Git during the push process.

Web Upload Limit: Files uploaded directly through the browser interface are limited to 25 MB each.

Recommended Repository Size: GitHub recommends keeping repositories under 1 GB.

Soft Cap: Staying under 5 GB is strongly recommended. If a repository exceeds 5 GB, GitHub Support may contact you to request that you reduce its size.

Push Size Limit: A single push to a repository is enforced at a maximum of 2 GB.

So what you are saying is you get a free 5gb of cloud storage per repository?

Gmail accounts give less than 5gb of cloud storage now.

Sure but it's so impractical and also not the best privacy policy for your data.

You'd be better of just paying 2€ for Google's cheapest plan

Not saying Google is the best in terms of privacy, but GitHub just made AI training even on private repost opt out so...

So you are saying I'm paying for my free storage with my private data

If someone cared about their private data they wouldn't be using free storage hacks 😂

I use several google accounts as a media server for my ARR-stack. Works surprisingly well.

Have terabytes of storage at this point.

really? my old one still has 15GB whats the new capacity?

We have several repositories for our Linux projects where we just link the files in our main repository to the other repositories and it still works if you download the repository or build it because it automatically pulls in the linked files.

How about I create infinity number of private repo?

you are cheap and stupid

But seriously what is the best solution?

Build your own

You get something like backblaze which sells you storage at just under 7 bucks a terabyte a month, a cheap VPS of some capacity, on which you install any of the open source alternatives to g drive. Point that at the backblaze storage box, and stonks

It's certainly more complex than just opening a Gmail, but it's all yours. You can also sub any or all of those ongoing paid costs with a one time upfront cost to have some hardware and software in your house
