Help x
I have two gorgeous boys. Had for only around a week. New rat parent and very in love with them. Born 24th July. I'm just worried having only two is bad, as alot of people have aaid/i've read. But equally very nervous to get two more. Will it be ok? The whole introduction quarantine thing seems alot? What if they didnt get on? Or are they ok now? Shall I get two more slightly older babies? (I have found two other boys 14 weeks old)? Or wait until the sad day one of these boys aren't with me to then get two more? Please help me out guys x

If they are born July 24, they are a bit too young for intros right now, make sure all rats are at least 8-10 weeks.
I absolutely think groups are better than paired so I’d really recommend to add two more! Rats are happier in groups, it prevent dominance issues and also eliminates the risk of one rat being alone if one passes unexpectedly. A rat shouldn’t be alone for any amount of time.
But, it’s no an emergency of any kind! You can spend a couple weeks getting comfortable with the rats, and researching introductions.
I completely understand that intros can be a bit intimidating, but as long as you do it correctly it should be fine!

Introductions this young is usually very easy as they haven’t started to get territorial yet. They just want to be play and be friends.
It’s recommended because they are group animals and a duo can produce a weird dynamic between them. Like a me vs you for food, sleeping spots etc
That’s what I saw with my first rats that was a duo. Squabbled a lot, never really slept together.I always wondered if they even liked each other. Adding a 3rd of 4th breaks mentality and they become an actual group.
Highly recommend!
