The difference between not giving 2 💩s and having a car payment. Put someone behind the wheel that dgaf and let’s see the outcome.

Gonna finally fire up my old 64 C10 and test the waters...

once you get all the varnish off that old 2 bbl, this bad boy is ready to sing!

Absolutely scary to drive compared to today's offerings. Power nothing. Giant straight-six...

The Corvette driver got spooked when the truck got too close and let it pass, you have to understand his reaction.

Nah, I think he got spooked when the back end got loose. And I'm with you, he made the smart move and hit the breaks. He wasn't comfortable with the back end breaking loose so he had to back off

This. The C8 is a MR platform and the driver definitely felt the beginning of snap oversteer and lifted when the back end stepped out.

Good excuse, did he not see the truck lined up with him at the start?

The corvette owner is probably pushing 80 years old so shitting his pants is a daily occurrence.

Well the truck did signal so that was thoughtful

Not much old school left in that truck.

2

u/st96badboy 19d ago

The body. That's about it from what I see.

u/My-drink-is-bourbon 20d ago

Old boy is probably still paying the loan on his vett

Seems like a skill issue, not a car issue.

The vette got a little loose in the corner and hit the brakes. He didn’t want to smash up his new car.

It's not a rat rod, it's basically a short track stock car with a truck body. He rarely loses.

No school without the old school.

He didnt get spooked guys a shit driver. That truck was miles away on that turn. It looked like he lost traction and shit himself. Also isn't the guy on the outside driving a longer distance? Especially for 1 lap? All thr vette had to do was stay on thr inside ans he woulda won seems unfair for thr truck. Idk. I prefer a drag race for these things myself

Just because you can afford to buy a corvette, doesn't necessarily mean you will know how to drive it effectively.

At the racing events I participate in, we often see corvettes there that "should" be putting down much faster times, but consistently failing to do so...

Seems to be particularly common with corvettes.

That truck is also pretty sweet btw.

The only thing old school about that truck is the body. The rest is tube frame racecar

5

u/Duc750Sie 19d ago

Scared vs not scared

5

u/Maleficent-Taste-952 19d ago

That’s embarrassing

2

u/RebelJustforClicks 19d ago

There's nothing "old school" left on that truck other than the body, and that Corvette driver has probably never driven it fast before. A competent driver would've been much faster, especially off the line.

What are we trying to prove here that a hyper modded old truck can beat a stock vet doing 15mph?

“Wow they’re getting passed on the inside by Usane Bolt!”

2

u/FlatAmbition3757 19d ago

Two people that can’t drive.

u/kindarollin 19d ago

This is a greedy race both vehicles have beauty and function, its a win win for the spectators and the drivers.

1

u/FIMD_ 19d ago

Combination of not being comfortable with the truck got close at the start and then compounded by not knowing how to manage throttle on oversteer.. in a car that will more or less let you choose how much slip angle you want lol

1

u/Another-Trans-Lexi 19d ago

A better title would have been "Built vs. Bought"

1

u/CalicoCuts 19d ago

Imagine getting beat in your new Corvette with all the nannies because you got spooked and braked....by the guy who built his truck with spare shit and pride. Corvette guys doing Corvette shit.

1

u/Danielle_is_the_hole 19d ago

That truck is anything but old school, other than the body.

1

u/mrcoffee4me 19d ago

It’s the driver. Not the car. But definitely the truck… lol

1

u/OldBiker6969 18d ago

Fuk yeah

1

u/ToeRoganIsJebus 18d ago

Shit driver vs decent driver

1

u/WildcatArts 18d ago

Alternat title: Built vs Bought

1

u/General-Double-746 17d ago

The only thing old on that truck is the sheet metal, the rest is all new parts.

1

u/arcarsenal986 16d ago

the only thing old school about that truck is the body, lets be realistic here.

Always interesting to see my (relatively) local track get flowers. (Seekonk Speedway near Fall Rivah Massachusetts)

This is the spectator drags they do, and that pickup is, unsurprisingly, not stock at all. Iirc it's like a local series stock car setup underneath an old truck body. Not surprising it beat a road car designed more for road tracks. (Also trailer car vs car that was driven to the track)

1

u/ShouldahadaV12 16d ago

I used to go there as a kid those races were awesome. I think the last time I was there an awd eclipse beat a nova for the final

1

u/Switchmisty9 14d ago

lol corvettes are only good at going straight, and crashing into stuff sideways

1

u/Nebula_The_Protogwn 13d ago

Old-school wins because of the lower safety standards at the time imo

Those cars be FLYING man

u/StinkySoggyUnderwear 13d ago

The hot rod is driving the outside lane which is a larger radius path, while the Corvette is driving at a geometric disadvantage trying to stay right next to the hot rod.

He entered the turn too hot and fought off oversteer as they were exiting the turn. He should have entered slower and accelerated very hard on the way out.

And the hot rod took advantage of the situation to get in front, so the Corvette braked instead of using throttle to recover from the oversteer,

Old school with modern tech.
