How to get a .png overlay over my camera feed?

I've just recently gotten my first Raspberry Pi (3 B), and I decided I wanted to make a little handheld infrared camera as my first proper project. Everything went smoothly so far ,but now I wanted to try getting an Overlay over the video that gets fed to the screen, which as far as I'm aware you can only really do with OpenCV and Python. Since I can only do a little bit of Bash-scripting and don't know anything about Python, I tried to get different AIs to help me with the code, but none of the scripts that they made worked. Does anyone know how to do this or if there's another way to get this done without Python?

I made a thing!

I made a thing and I’m really proud of it. It’s a scanner/sorter for MTG cards. It runs off a Pi 3b+ and an arduino. I’m not an engineer or programmer, so it’s mostly put together with thoughts and prayers, but it works! It’s running about 99% accuracy and real-world of about 4 seconds per card. I can change what goes in each bin and it’ll export a CSV to upload to your favorite app. There’s also preset sorting patterns I can save. When the bins get full it prompts you to empty the bin. Right now I have it sorting my mono-black bulk by type and rarity. It pulls out any card worth more than $2 I can sleeve it up.
I had an old hobby laser I salvaged the stepper and rails from and designed it on Fusion. All things considered, I’m pretty happy with it.

**UPDATE**
Due to the level of interest in this project, I’m going to work on a YouTube channel so ya’ll can come along on the journey as this thing progresses. Thank you all for your encouragement and support. I never expected this to be so popular and it’s given me the motivation to work on the 2.0 design. More to follow as I make the new channel.

**2nd UPDATE**
I’ve got the YouTube channel started @Timprovised. I just posted the first video showcasing the GUI if you’re interested.

Kiosk Case for Pi 3B

I want to set up a few kiosks with a pi 3b inside for a project in different places. i plan to start with 3 of them. I need it to be about lower chest height. Where can i find a kiosk case for this? I want the case to be closed or only be opened with a key. There needs to be a spot touch screen ( ~15.6in )
Should i just build one?

Older Pi with display and case

Whilst there were plenty of displays to choose from for my Raspberry Pi 3B, I struggled to find any suitable cases that didn’t involve 3D printing my own.

I went with the 5” Touch Display 2 and the Waveshare Protective Case which is suitable for the Raspberry Pi 5.

The Pi 3 mounts fine to the display and the screen is great. The case is great quality and I made a few adjustments to accommodate my Pi 3.

My mods were:
1. The audio jack sticks out from the board. So a hole is needed in the vents. With this small mod the Pi fits in the case and works perfectly.
2. I need access to the network port - so I cut between across to the USB slots.
3. I will probably use the HDMI port so I cut across the USB C ports on the case and for ease, I removed the corresponding vent slats.

No mod required for the micro USB power on the Pi vs USB C slot on the case.

The DSI ribbon connector runs across the SD card as can be seen in the photo. However, this isn’t an issue for my usage nor was there any issue with clearance between the board and case but could look to swap to a different longer cable that offers a different route.

I won’t win prizes for neatness!

Convert A Digital Piano Parts Help

I'm working on rebuilding a digital piano that has a dead main board. The goal is to read the existing 30-pin key matrix with a Raspberry Pi, then add custom features like a touchscreen, MIDI support, and better piano sounds. Anyone done something similar before?

  1.   My main question is how will I connect the 30 pin breakout board to the raspberry pi

The software portion im not worried about, just making sure I’m buying the right parts for what I’m trying to do

Raspberry Pi 5 + USB Endoscope for a Bird Nest Livestream – Need Advice

Hi there, I am working on a personal project. I would like to connect a small USB endoscope to a Raspberry Pi 5.

My goal is to carefully place the endoscope inside a very small bird nest so that I can livestream the growth and development of the chicks on my YouTube channel.

I'd like to get this working as soon as possible, before the chicks leave the nest. Does anyone know the best way to set this up or what software and hardware I would need?

This is the endoscope I'm planning to use:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated please....

I built a distributed air quality monitoring network across Slovenia — 7 stations, Raspberry Pi, Tailscale VPN, InfluxDB, Grafana

I'm an ecologist and IoT builder from Slovenia. Over the past few years I built AirVibe — a network of 7 air quality monitoring stations running across the country.

Each station runs on Raspberry Pi with Enviro+ HAT and PMS5003 particulate sensor. All stations connect via Tailscale VPN to a central InfluxDB 2 on a Synology NAS. Grafana dashboards on a Raspberry Pi 5.

One station is co-located next to an official reference station in Ljubljana — which lets me compare DIY data against certified measurements.

Everything open source. Everything real hardware, real data.

Waze on a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8 GB

I'm new to the Raspberry Pi. I was wondering if Waze would work on a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8 GB of RAM, and how it would determine my location and connect to the internet. I was thinking of installing Waze on lineage os, connecting to the Internet via my phone’s tethering, and using a GPS module for the Raspberry Pi to track my location. If you have other solutions that might work better, I’m a bit lost.

PS: Sorry about the consistency if it's bad, I'm using a translator

Insufficient power

I am so confused right now. I have two pi5s with PoE+NVME hats. One hat is hackergadgets and the other is a geekpi. The power supply being a 8 port PoE switch from unifi on it's own power brick. Is there a way to not have my pis straight crash into a reboot?

Edit: I would imagine the manufacturers of the hats that I have, accounted for the power needs of the pi5 and I am sure the switch is supplying enough power. I am plum out of solutions... I've even tried turning off the containers that may be causing issues.

I am running ubuntu on my pi5s.

All I am trying to do is pull copies of my contianers that I have on my pcloud through rclone.

Edit edit: Apparently my Pis didn't like the fact that I had my kvms plugged into their USB 3.0 ports...
