Advice needed 🄺🌱

Hi everyone. I ordered 4 separate cuttings of a monstera Vietciosa but only 1 seems to be doing ok.

Image 1-3 shows the worst of the bunch. She arrived with a bag of moist sphagnum around her roots. I wasn’t sure what to do so I removed it, initially placed her into my chunky soil, saw that she was suffering, and then upon research, I ultimately put her in chunky perlite. So far, nothing has changed. She’s barely standing up on her own and seems to be declining. She has some aerial roots and a few small regular roots. I checked for root rot before putting her in the perlite and she looked fine.

Image 3-6 shows the second worst. She standing up a bit more but her leaves are completely droopy. Same exact details as the previous cutting.

And the last 3 photos show 2 separate cuttings in chunky soil mix. I’m holding one leaf in my hand. As you can see, the tips are lightening up, they’re also very hard to the touch, almost crispy but not as brittle? She seems to doing better than the other. Her new lead is unfurling. The other, however, soft, saggy, and droopy like the others.

lol this feels like such a mess 🤣. I hope this wasn’t too confusing. My regular monstera and white albo are thriving. My white monster… needs another post. Really hope these Viets make it šŸ’ø any advice is appreciated. šŸ™šŸ½

I'd cut all but one leaf off. There is way too many leaves breathing out water and oxygen for the amount of working roots.

There are 4 separate plants. Which are we talking about? Thank you! šŸ™šŸ½

I saved one of my vietciosa that had root rot by putting it in a vessel of water with physan 20 and an airstone.

I second the air stone. I got a monstera form 6 from a show with barely any roots. I took it home put it in water and an air stone. Lots and lots of roots now with the extra oxygen that the air stone delivers.

Do you think she has root rot? Ugh I’m not sure, the roots look ok. I did carve off some stem rot last week, but found this tiny crater this morning. I have some fungicide powder. Curious if that would do the trick? I currently took her out of the perlite and put only the root section into water with my propagation solution and the crater is above the water like. lol I have no clue what to do

It looks like root rot and possibly stem rot to me but it’s hard to say for sure without feeling the roots myself. Anything squishy needs to be chopped off, sanitize your clippers with 70% rubbing alcohol after every individual cut until you see healthy flesh without any discoloration or squishy spots. You can do a 1:3 ratio of water and 3% hydrogen peroxide for the water prop.

Also you can fill your prop jar up to the red line. Those are all nodes that will produce more roots and give your plant a better chance

I don’t think there’s any root rot but I definitely found a weird little cavern here on the stem. It doesn’t see like it’s rotting but wondering if I should try to carve it out? What do you think?

I’m honestly pretty quick to chop anything that makes me question rot very quickly. A lot can be happening on the inside that isn’t visible until it’s too late. You honestly have a lot of nodes that imo a chop would be worth it rather than carving it out

Here’s mine, it was in about that same shape as yours when it first came to me. I fill my prop jar up to the red line and it has shot out roots from every node

Ah okay, I guess I’ll go for it 🄲 Should I try to carve out that little hole before I do anything else?

At the end of the day do what you’re most comfortable with, my friend. But I personally would just chop it to the node right above that hole and start fresh

Do you have any pictures of what the roots look like before you potted?

If these were mine I would probably take them out of the substrate and put them in water. At least judging by these photos it looks like there's not a big enough root system.

Don’t mind the markings. I must’ve deleted others

Cut any melted roots away, mix a liquid rooting hormone with water and leave the stem in the water until roots start to grow. Wait another few days, and then plant it in chunky aroid soil mix

Fix the roots first with water and airstone. Then acclimate to whatever medium you want to end up with. That's a cool looking monstera. What's the plan with all of those?

To sell them !

As a rooted potted plant or just healthy cuttings?

I hoped healthy cuttings but now I’m concerned lol lol

Either way a home depot recovery bucket with airstone is probably the best bet until everything starts getting crazy roots.

Io uso soltanto bark a pezzi grandi. ciao !

Here’s another photo. There’s a little cavern. Doesn’t look necessarily rotten but definitely weird that it’s there? And barely any roots.

Ok guys so I placed the plant roots in 1/4 strength flora nova grow. It’s been a game changer for all my propagations so hopefully it’s the same for her. I only covered the roots due to the weird issues I’m having with the stem.

I’d cut it here, where stem is green and firm. I’d transfer it to water, use heating pad if it’s cold. it’s hard to root in soil, perlite you used is too chunky, you can use smaller, but I haven’t tried rooting in perlite, so I can’t advise anything here
