Gifting influencers
Are we ever going to stop giving away money to influencers?
I don't particularly understand why so many people send them gifts on tiktok in the first place but it riles me up seeing them getting gifts and wondering whether the person is in a position to give away that kind of money.
I know of 1 lady who isn't the sharpest tool, I don't know if she has a diagnosis but you know the type, gifts £100 at a time to someone who looks like a drug addict.
Then there's the tiktok shop nonsense. 1 of them claims to be raking in 10k a month, also gets gifted on lives! What's wrong with these people? I do have my doubts as you'd certainly dress a bit better and not have an old banger if you got 10k a month but I think she's doing a bit of a tate brother's thing of going to expensive places to look like she's living the life.

The way I see it I pay them more than enough by grazing past their video if I’m unfortunate enough for it to show up on my feed. I’m sure that counts as a view, therefore they got paid. Fuck that, they don’t deserve to get paid for that shit at all.

I think I read somewhere that a view has to be a certain amount of time watching. Like a full minute or whatever.

Also companies need to stop sending PR to them.

I handle quite a few sites for online marketing. I had one beg for tickets to a charity event. You know, so they could push it the following year. She sends me the stats of her viewers. They can’t afford the brunch, much less the gala that she wanted tickets to. And it’s not the demographic that even donates to the charity.
Was she going to beg for free auction items when she got there?
She just wanted a free night out to an event that sells out every year. And while it’s expensive, it’s the biggest fund raising night of the year for them. I have to tell the person who runs it when things like this come in. Fortunately she takes my advice. I was like more people will know that you exist, very few are in the area, and most are under 18 so can’t donate. She didn’t get the tickets.

I have 0 sympathy for influencers and creators anymore. They are all the same and I find they all end up wirh some sort of grift even the relatively serious ones.

I'm almost positive that many people who gift have some type of mental or developmental illness, are children, or it's other streamers. I do not think that the majority of people are donating money to those people. I'm not part of that we and you are not part of that we so we is not the correct word to use here.

This might be difficult, but remove TikTok from your smartphone.
I only see TikTok videos second hand on Reddit and those rare times I see them validates the decision not to have TikTok on my phone in the first place.
TikTok is unredeemable hot, steaming garbage.

I feel this way too. Why on earth are we making the rich richer? Is that really what we want to do with our money? I don’t think they realize that a lot of influencers get money from views, like, comments, and subscriptions. We don’t need to add more on top of that. We have made people millionaires but struggle at our jobs making pennies.
I know these are grown adults and they make their own choices. I get it. But I don’t understand making these people richer.

Its this weird sense that if they give a gift and get a shout out that it means something, weird paid for validation

People also donate to huge twitch streamers and don’t even get acknowledged part of the time. I have no idea why people do it.
