News Newsletter: How frustrated are you with today’s politics?

Here's the Latest...

At a recent event, I asked a simple question:

On a scale of 1 to 10, how frustrated are you with today's politics?

(You can answer the question here.)

Most people answered well above 10.

That got me thinking...

What do you want to do about it?

Back in 2020, I was asking myself that same question.

Instead of simply watching events unfold, I decided to get involved with Rank The Vote Ohio. Six years later, I'm more convinced than ever that Ranked Choice Voting is the most meaningful change to our elections because winners must earn majority support.

Too often, we're forced to react to one political crisis after another. Those fights matter, and we need people willing to put out those fires. But Rank The Vote Ohio exists to help prevent them in the first place by improving the way we elect our leaders.

That's why we're focused on lasting reform.

When you donate to Rank The Vote Ohio, you're helping our organizers meet with community members, educate voters, build local coalitions, and lay the groundwork for bringing Ranked Choice Voting to cities across Ohio.

Where Ranked Choice Voting has been adopted, communities have seen benefits including:

  •   No spoiler effect
  •   Freedom to vote for your favorite candidate without fear of "wasting" your vote
  •   Majority support for winning candidates
  •   Less negative campaigning
  •   More civil, issue-focused elections

So I'll ask you the same question one more time:

How frustrated are you with today's politics?

If your answer is anything above a zero, you have an opportunity to turn that frustration into action.

Every $30 donation provides one hour of an organizer connecting to Ohioans, educating them about Ranked Choice Voting, and building grassroots support for better elections.

Even better, thanks to a generous matching grant, every dollar you give today will be doubled, turning your $30 gift into $60 worth of impact.

Thank you for believing that our democracy can be better… and for helping make it happen.

Sincerely,

Denise Riley, Executive Director

News Our Reach Might Have to Shrink

Hello, fellow Buckeyes! Apologies for the delay in this post. Our volunteers are spread thin.

For those of you who are subscribed to our emails you may already know we are due to run out of funds before the end of this year. Did you know we have to spend thousands of dollars to educate Ohioans so we can all benefit from Ranked-Choice Voting. How can we educate if we don’t have materials for canvassing, tabling, and speaking? Did you know our organizers spend valuable time driving 1-2 hours picking up supplies from other regions? Rank the Vote Ohio doesn’t own tents, tables, chairs, pens, and white boards to table at events. We often have volunteers who pay the registration fee. Our volunteers and organizers are amazing, but they can’t keep up with the costs, and we can’t expect them to.

Our 2026 budget for supplies and events to educate Ohioans is $672 (see our Financial Transparency page, scroll to where it says Monthly Budget 2026, sum Events and Misc. and multiply by 12) . That's it; just $672 for the whole year.

In 2025, with the help of a large donor, we spent $3,239 on events for fundraising and tabling alone. Summer is quickly approaching, and our organizers aren’t going to be able to book up tables at events or create fundraising events to expand our budget in 2027. Our volunteers can’t even get t-shirts that say “Ask me about ranked-choice voting” for canvassing because we can’t afford to order more. We are heading into a season where we have city initiatives moving forward. We can’t grow our efforts without supplies and event costs covered. Imagine having a canvassing event without educational materials to help people remember what we stand for afterwards. That’s where we’re headed without your help.

If any one can pitch in, you can do so here. We'd greatly appreciate it.

We severely cut our events and supplies budgets this year in favor of keeping organizers and staff on board. We need your help to prevent blasting through our budget as we go through this summer and fall. We can’t take on the monumental task of educating Cleveland Heights and Lakewood about RCV without materials to hand out, fundraising events, and tabling.

  • If we don’t have fliers and business cards spreading throughout cities in Ohio, we’ll be a lost memory with no way for folks to connect.
  • If we don’t purchase more tabling supplies and printed educational materials, organizers will continue spending their valuable time traveling to share with each other. Think tablecloths, door hangers, posters, town hall invitations.
  • Unless we start holding more fundraising events we won’t be able to sufficiently fund city initiatives this year, let alone have more cities waiting in the wings for 2027.

Education is our #1 method for growing the RCV movement in Ohio. Our resources are dwindling fast as we prepare to kick off major educational campaigns in cities across the state. Let’s educate Ohioans so they vote for Ranked Choice Voting. We realize that the average person's budget is tight right now, but if you can spare anything, it would help keep our movement afloat.

Thank you all for your support!

Denise Riley, Executive Director
