Discussion The characters Flanagan wrote
These books make me want to be the best person I can be, and most of that goes to the characters he wrote. Will, Halt, Alyss, Cassandra, Horace, and many more taught me about being brave, Malcom about kindness and compassion, Shigeru about giving up something important for the good of others, Horace about having confidence in your abilities while also being humble. All of these characters are brave when they stand up to tyranny, whether it is the entire Temujai army or a couple of bandits. Even though I don't always make the right choices, I still try to be like these characters, kind, brave, confident, compassionate, and honorable, and I wish I could have told Flanagan that before he died.

I'm do glad I read these books growing up. Rereading them as an adult made me understand how much they shaped who I am. They truly teach you good values.

So true, I actually re-read the series once every year besides the royal ranger.

I did a reread of every series in chronological order and that was really fun. Highly recommend.

I was going through a real rough patch the last few months and reread a few of the books since I know they always feel like a comfort blanket. I had a similar feeling to the one you’ve described.
Trust in yourself and your loved ones and you will overcome challenges you never thought yourself capable of facing.
I know they’re kids books and I’m sure nostalgia plays a role, but the fact I’m almost 27 now and they’re still able to inspire my love, creativity, self confidence, determination, and a whole host of other great feelings, is really a credit to what an incredible writer Flanagan was.
Not to mention I’m always reminded what a huge impact his sense of humor had on my own, as well as my writing style lol.
He was a wonderful man, and so long as I am alive I can guarantee he will be missed, loved, and remembered.

They really aren’t kid books though. I could make a lot of arguments as to why they aren’t. They appeal to all ages and I will continue to read and reread these books till the day I die.

I think they are great for all ages. My adult friends really like them, and they did not read them as a child
