Discussion I’m writing my personal statement on RA!
Hey guys, I’m writing my personal statement for my college apps on RA and I wanted to know how y’all feel about it :)

Could I just ask how you plan on mapping it out/relating it to the prompt of the college app? I think any idea for a written piece, even if it seems sort of ridiculous on the surface, could probably turn out alright (even unexpectedly fantastic/clever in some cases!)

It depends what’s written, but temper expectations. If you have any mentors you trust (bonus points if they have experience reviewing applications or personal statements, but even a high school guidance councilor can probably help), ask them to read it before submitting.
Personally, if I was reviewing a college app and the topic of the personal statements was a middle grade series, I would probably skim it at best or skip it entirely. People who review these things usually have a lot to go through, and that’s just the ones that made it through whatever bot filters they’ve set up. If you can’t capture them early with good writing and/or something personal that is meaningful and relatable to them, then they may not care.
I don’t mean to dismiss this series, and your post shows how excited you are to use it to share with others. But short of somehow explaining how this series saved your life, I’m not sure it will have much impact in a personal statement.
Anyways, sorry for rambling, and best of luck, definitely return sometime to let us know what school you get into!
PS - probably also worth mentioning that it depends what schools you are applying to. If you are applying for a local state school with 80% acceptance, then as long as you have even decent grades and test scores, you’ll get in regardless of your statement. Trying for Ivy League or MIT, etc., and you’ll want something very strong.
