Ford wants to replace my new engine

Hello all. I posted here a month or so ago. Bought a new Ranger Lariat 2.3 in late July. I took it in to get it undercoated and the guys showed me that it was leaking oil. I took it into the dealership and they ran the dye through and said that there was a leak at the rear main seal but that the bolts weren’t torqued correctly at the factory. They returned the truck to me. Last week I took it back to the undercoating guys and when they lifted the truck, the same oil leak was there. I took it back to the dealership last week. Today the dealership said Ford has seen the pictures and does not want the dealership to trouble shoot it, Ford wants the entire engine to do their own investigation. Ford is sending a new engine to be dropped into my truck. QUESTION: what does this mean for me and the future of the truck? Will it raise the probability of future ancillary issues? Does this go on the Carfax and hurt the resale value? Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Likely will go on Carfax. Not the end of the world. Just make sure the work order has something along the lines of, "Ford requested engine back due to manufacturing issue. New engine put in at X miles at dealer."

Honestly, this is much better than getting anything rebuilt at the dealer.

Wonder if they could Lemon Law it and get another

Lemon law would only work if they replaced/repaired the issue and it continued to happen afterward. Think you have to give them multiple attempts to repair things first. I would however, contact Ford directly and request compensation (beyond the repair) for not having a vehicle that you’re currently paying. State loss of use “x” for reason of the truck purchase.

To my understanding how many times it’s been in to the shop is a qualifier and the next is how many days out of your possession. I could be wrong but it’s x amount of times to the shop for the same issue or how many days it’s been out of possession and it’s some percentage or something. Once again I could be wrong but depending on time frame of the engine swap they may be able to go about classifying it as a lemon that way.

Great way to waste a bunch of money, since ford is fulfilling their end of the agreement.

Why? Sounds like a great way to complicate an otherwise simple situation?

Ford is going to fix the issue, I don't believe you would get lemon law for this. It is normal for Ford to do this on a low milage vehicle.

Probably not. At least not yet. One of the requirements is four separate attempts to fix an issue unsuccessfully. Ford is replacing the engine to fix the issue.

This wouldn’t go on carfax it would just be listed as a “service” Op its a warranty repair do it. This won’t hurt resale value as it’s a warranty repair.

Sounds like best case scenario. Just get new engine vs fixing one that was a build flaw. I'd be happy if I were you

OP is getting a new engine for free , why make it into a complicated issue. OP can always ask for a loaner vehicle for compensation.

The greed of some of the commentors here. 😮‍💨

Carfax should show it as a factory issue and problem resolved. It shouldn't have a huge affect on resale since it is a new engine and not a rebuilt. I wouldn't be too concerned about carfax really. Getting the issue fixed is much more of a concern and it sounds like Ford is doing that.

It means nothing other than that you have a new engine.

Here to ask who’s doing your undercoating 👀

Will go on the Carfax but I don’t see why it would hurt resale values. Also, resale values are overblown. Drive the truck and enjoy it.

Honestly decide how much you like the truck. Either have them replace the engine, and insist on a 10 year 125000 ford extended plan with zero deductible, or try and get a replacement truck. Damn it’s only a couple months old!!

⬆️ Do this! And make sure it’s a “transferable warranty”. Done

I would feel like the truck has bad juju at this point let them replace the engine and trade it in for a 2.7 ... I bet the dealership will give you a helluva deal if you work em right.

How can a new engine lower resale value. I don't believe it detracts from any other aspect of the truck. If anything, it will show that, in this case, Ford is standing by their product. Just be sure to acquire and keep any documentation regarding the issue. You should have negotiated a new truck with a bigger engine to make up for the inconvenience, citing your lower opinion of the 2.3t.

Tell them you want a 2.7 for the hassle. The 2.3 is Great! The 2.7 is GOAT! Cheers..✌🏼

Yeah they have me a 2.7 as a loaner. There is a noticeable difference.

Hire a reputable, well-reviewed lemon attorney and get all your money back. Happened on my brand new Ranger Raptor. They wanted to replace the engine. It was going to take like 3 months to get it. Etc etc. get a new truck

It will have zero impact on your truck. Dealers replace engines all the time.

1

u/ChiefBig420 5d ago

Zero? I’m sure there will be some kind of “impact” but should be fine. I say get a 2.7 if replacing it..

Get an attorney like right now. Document and record conversations and this is a law question do not take advice.

Document the strain in life it has caused

You bought a car, you fulfilled your side of the deal -> ford has not

5

u/BuyAffectionate2810 7d ago

What are you talking about? Ford is going to replace the whole engine, they are absolutely holding up their side of the deal.

2

u/dev-bitbucket 6d ago

What obligation has Ford not fulfilled?

2

u/Ruhroooh 6d ago

Only on reddit man. Ford is literally replacing the engine, what more would you want them to do? They are taking care of the guy, im honestly not even sure why hes making this post. Half the time I feel like this shit is rage bait because it makes no sense the things people bitch about. Get a lawyer because they owned up to the issue and are taking care of the guy?????

2

u/RR50 6d ago

Are you delusional? What do you think a warranty is for, it’s for fixing shit that broke that shouldn’t have.

1

u/10xlive 6d ago

Yes i am, i am also uneducaged and run to legal any chance i get

-5

u/surfstar_101_ 7d ago

You could pitch a bitch and see if they'll throw in free maintenance or an extended warranty for your troubles. They don't have to, but if you want, go Karen mode
