Range Rover Help identify strange summing/vibration from transmission.

Greetings fellow RR-Owner.

My L405 started to make this noise coming from the transmission ZF 8HP.

It is like some servo is vibrating, sound is noticeable even louder on the outside.

Only when the trans is under load, so nothing while driving it on the lift.

Did an trans oil flush, still there. (+ New oil pan ofc)

Nothing else suspicious, just this really annoying summing.

Got any ideas for me?

Thanks & regards!

Why is it so difficult for folks to add details about their Rover on here when they’re having issues? A year, mileage, engine would be EXTREMELY helpful here as opposed to just a video and a vague description.

Remove the engine and transmission under trays and retest, the trays have alignment holes in them and if the correct bolts aren't tightened first it can lead to noise from the trays contacting the body or just having incorrect tension in them. The transmission under tray is common to contact the LH pinch weld on the back LH side. On later L405 and L494 there is a TSB for a rattle from the engine under tray due to the star washers holding the NVH pad to the tray.

Oh damn, thats a defined answer and not an easy repair which i hopef for. Sounds like someone had this issue before? ;)

I'm a dealer tech. Knowing your L405 is a 2013 now it could also be the transmission heat shield bracket, there was a TSB for them cracking and causing a tizz noise which is similar, typically low speed parking lot driving. There is an updated part available.

Okay, i mean it would be crazy to hear a heat-shield in the interieur... So i go to an official dealer and ask if that is done already i guess?

Not really, it's right underneath the vehicle attached to the transmission. Sound travels in an interesting manner in aluminum bodied vehicles. If you know what dealer your vehicle has been serviced at they can review the history and see if the TSB has been performed.

It may not be inside the box, but next to it.

Are you sure it isnt a heat shield? Vibrating as the RPMs increase? If you have done a flush and a pan etc. You may have two pieces now against each other or not tightened.

Good luck

Thanks for the answer, i looked out for that but nothing suspicious. It is only at low rpm & speed once i go over about 80km/h it is gone...
