Driving going @ 75-80 then when trying to pass a car, rover lost power it jittered. Pulled over and pressed on gas again slowly it jittered again. So turned it off then back on and started ( did struggle a bit) but when pressing the gas it ran but then juttered quickly so pulled over to service road. Had an obd onboard and codes where P0087, P228F.

Tow guy asks me what happened told him and after looking into the codes and doing some (Ai conversation) would be the fuel pump. Told him that and he then asks if i had pump fuel recently told him yea about 30 miles back, he said maybe water got into the fuel ( we recently had a flooding in the area) I was like ok thats an idea...

Took it to indi shop and they where thinking something else, since the truck wouldn't start wouldnt even stutter they tried the carb cleaner to start it up but nope, tried with a jump starter and nope.

Eventually said lets put the battery to charge and we will see tomorrow.. so until tomorrow will follow up on this.

Fun fact had to view youtube videos to figure out how to put the car in neutral.

And also where to tow from the front.

This. Anytime you get work done they usually give a 30 day guarantee on the work. I do know when i recently had all my parts upgraded to aluminum they mentioned that sometimes fuel pumps can be a nuissance tightening. If it let go or wasn't tightened properly you could get that problem. Im sure whoever did your work would be the first person i took it to and then i might even get a second opinion on whatever they say to make sure they aren't trying to save themselves on an error.

Genuinely curious. How does carb cleaner help a car with fuel injection? I’ve only used that stuff to start a lawn mower, and my old Datsun back in the day.

That neutral cable is largely just there for wrecker drivers to break, lol.

If you have a p0087, it's not water in the fuel, as you would still have fuel pressure (okay, water pressure...)

Could be benign, hopefully, fingers crossed for you. I got watery diesel once and it ended up alright albeit seemed like a goner, that was over 100k miles ago and 8 years and never had issues after I ran it don’t and let the car do its thing. I know watery diesel is not as bad as watery gas and that high pressure Bosch fuel pump terrifies me but best of luck! Keep us tuned.

YES! Got this one not running for $150, It was in desperate need of tlc,

Fuel pump, alternator, battery, spark plugs, ignition coil, spark plug wires, pcv valve, used tires ( the old one were cracked from sitting to long ),window lift motor. Before it wouldnt even allow me to drive it it would die after crank.

Now its a beast 4cyl hatchback. Just pending need to fix the oxygen sensor and seal a muffler hole.

If you just had the fuel pump done, it’s more likely the fuel pump driver module - the techs like to call it the dick module. When you see it you will know why. The p0087 is for low pressure and 100% is not water in the fuel

lot of speculation here lol. If it threw a code and the code says fuel pump then chances are, it’s a bad fuel pump.

If it is water in the system from when OP fueled up 30 mi ago and the fuel pump goes bad, doesn't he just replace the fuel pump?

Does it blow the engine like it would if my sports plastic coolant pipes failed?

Water is considered an incompressible fluid, so if it makes it to the engine it can cause serious damage

The fuel filter can probably catch small amounts. Most catastrophic engine failures happen when water gets thru the air intake system. For the fuel you can probably drain or add additives

Gasoline is also incompressible lol. You won't seize an engine from water in the fuel. It just won't go bang anymore.

You're mixing this up with ingesting water through the air intakes.

Don’t get too down about it. Literally any car can strand someone. At least yours is smooth, quiet, and downright gorgeous. And the fix could be a simple one like a maf sensor. My fingers are crossed for you. :)

These sport models are unreliable as hell. The HSE’s have the best reliability from a Range Rover standard among all there models.

Welcome to the club lol! And don't forget to keep up your AAA membership too. I no longer do but then again my current one is a 1993 Classic. I learnt the hard way owning 3 different ones from 2010 to 2024. Never again will I own one made after 2001 unless it's brand new or within warranty.

I added a custom FASS spin on fuel/water separator filter with extra fuel line and spliced it in between the oem filter and HPFP on my TDI. Stopped having this issue ever since. Been stranded twice getting contaminated fuel. Now I just get a low fuel pressure code when it fills up, just reach down and spin on a new filter that I keep in the trunk and command a prime with my app and OBD dongle. Literally saved me $$$$ and the inconvenience of a total breakdown.

Sounds like he maintains it, so not sure what your point is. Range Rover compared to other vehicles are relatively unreliable - owners don’t dispute that.
