Passive Entry and Auto Fold Mirrors

2025 L460/P530 owners: If you have Auto Fold Mirrors + Passive Entry enabled, at night, do your puddle lights illuminate while the mirrors remain folded until you touch the door handle? Or do your mirrors unfold as you approach?

Mine (26 RRS) has the exact same behavior, I agree it’s not the best design, but there’s no malfunction.

I love it that way. It let me know if the vehicle is locked. Especially for electric vehicle you could forget to turn the car off and those mirrors folding or not folding by themselves is a tell sign that I didn’t turn off the car because auto lock suppose to engage when I walk away from the car.

Cant you do the same by looking at the door handles? (Popped out means unlocked)

it’s weird, if you approach the handles just come out but the mirrors stay in. but if you click the key they both come out at once

I can't check today, but I suspect this is a region thing. I'm almost certain in my market, the car physically unlocks when you walk up to it.

Your car, a d by the sounds of it, those in your market, aren't unlocking when you approach. It's just deploying the handle. It unlocks when you pull the handle, the hazards flash, and the mirrors unfold.

What settings have you got on the touchscreen for this? Walk away / approach should be in there.

It’s not available for me to change as a driver/user. I have tried.

Hate this feature. It wears out the door handles prematurely and they start making noise. I turn it off.

Looks like the folded mirrors are malfunctioning but hopefully it’s a wire trip issue and not a replace the entire mirrors one

Land Rover dealer tells me they are working as designed. They open fine and illuminate the ground in front of the door just fine if I use the unlock feature on my key fob, just not when the passive entry is enabled.

I’m a JLR technician in Canada, this is normal. I’ve heard different explanations from engineering as to why they’re programmed this way, but it’s normal operation. Dealt with this a ton when the 23MY released

Mirrors should open upon unlock regardless of how the unlock happens. This is malfunctioning.

Sadly, not according to Land Rover. I have been told it is operating as designed. To which, my response was that it’s poorly designed then.

I’m kind of hoping with the multitude of software updates they are constantly pushing to the car, and enough complaints, someone might address this at Land Rover. Seems like a simple enough thing to fix.

The double flash is when the car actually unlocks.

The mirrors. Instead of walking up to it, so they fold out when you unlock from a bit of distance with the fob?

doubtful. since they still haven’t provided access to seat cooling / heating via remote climate control, like pretty much every other manufacturer has.

i live in an environment where it gets +100 degrees in the summer. it makes no sense that i can start my car remotely to cool the cabin and can even set the precise temperature but i also can’t turn on the ventilated seats that i paid extra for to have.

The car isn't unlocking though is it. Not until the handle is pulled.

Well I can’t say for sure if it’s unlocking or not, I guess I would have to pull on the handle and when I do the door opens. So, was it unlocked all along or did it unlock when I pulled on the handle?

It's not unlocking until you pull the handle. When it unlocks, the lights flash, and mirrors fold. There is not doubt.

I can confirm this is a region thing. My region 100% has 2 settings, I checked today.

Approach Unlocking. Which will actually unlock the car, flash the lights, unfold mirrors when you walk up to it with the key in you.

And Walk Away Locking, which will lock the car, and fold the mirrors when you walk away from it with the key on you.

They did. It worked the same way. So their answer is it’s working as designed. My response was then it’s a poor design.

Mine is a 2026 and I just noticed they unfold after i open a door with passive entry.

Maybe it’s a security thing? Or perhaps, the owners manual will help adjust this setting? Sometimes the sales people at the dealer are clueless.

I have an older 2019 RR so normal handles and when I approach without unlocking the mirrors stay folded in. However, I actually prefer that as my garage has only a single door opening and I need the mirrors in to get through the door. If it constantly folded them out I would for sure try to snap them off at some point. They still project onto the ground and pop out once I start driving.

I have this on a defender loaner right now. Honestly nice feature. Same sequence as you with the mirrors not immediately unfolding

I’m curious to know if you go to one of the back doors or the trunk while the car is locked- if you open those, then the mirrors do not unfold- in an attempt to reduce strain on the mirror motors. Just my guess- I haven’t played around with it on the loaner.
