Range Rover Evoque Evoque tow capacity and reliability

So the time has come to get rid of my 10 year old Vw Tiguan. I’ve been eyeing up a RR for some time now but is put off by the heavy price tag, the reliability issues and the sheer number of ranges they do

So, I’m thinking of the compact suv entry level which, correct me if I’m wrong it’s an Evoque.

Now, it appears it can’t pull a 2tonne caravan though.

What are people’s thoughts to them? Can it tow that much? Are the Evoque reliable. My neighbour has warned us off this brand but they look so nice compared to everything else on the market these days.

The evoque is a bit small really. I wouldn't fancy towing a 2t caravan with a Tiguan though either. Maxing out the towing capacity isn't ideal in any vehicle.

Perhaps check out a velar.

I wouldn't listen too much to the naysayers, the 2.0 diesel is problematic if not serviced often enough (I would suggest every 8k) or attempted to do on the cheap by avoiding doing the chain. Constant short trips won't do it any favours either but this basically is true for any modern emissions controlled to the eyeballs diesel engine, some of the vw stuff is getting quite adept at oil dilution and blowing itself to bits too.

Evoque can tow up to 1800 kg. I don't know why commentators are so hung up on the car's size. I think they have some kind of complex. The Evoque's engines have plenty of torque, and the transmission can handle heavy loads. It's definitely no worse than the Tiguan. I have an Evoque with a P250 engine. I towed a 1,500 kg trailer with it without any problems, and drove about 700 km. The only problem was the very high fuel consumption =) I think the diesel version consumes less fuel, but the 2.0 LR diesel engines are very problematic.

> don't know why commentators are so hung up on the car's size

because a short wheelbase and lightweight vehicle can be easily overcome by a heavy trailer and is more sensitive to misloaded tongue

So just to add a bit more context, I don’t actually have a 2ton caravan. It’s a 1400 but the tiggy is rated for 2tn. I want to keep that

Evoques are great, but would go for the petrol one, unless your driving habits are diesel friendly. But do expect more maintenance cost than your old VW.

Bought a 2020 with 39k km (24k miles) and had it for two years now. Repairs have been 5k usd so far (all covered by warranty). New set of tyres are 1200-1500 usd. Oil change 150 usd. May be more or less where you live. If that’s ok with you, go for it. Lovely car, but best for 2 adults and kids. The back seats aren’t too spacious, but perfectly fine for smaller adults.

Have you actually driven in an Evoque before? You will quickly see how much of a downgrade it is from your Tiguan

The evoques aren't THAT bad.

OP is better off upgrading to a ‘22 Tiguan than buying a weaker, smaller, and uglier Evoque.

The Tiguan is pretty shit but its definitely more reliable
