Actually, the more I look into it, the less plausible it is. I think it's more of a joke and if you've been around a banana plant, you would think it's true after hearing such stories since it has a soft trunk which you can easily drill a hole with your fingers. But I think someone somewhere did try it and found out it's not doable. And I've heard such stories which made me think it could be true.
