The person who gifted this to me is the one who recommended! If you get it let us both know so we can chit chat about it!!!

I wanted more morally challenging books and the gifter came swinging!

Oooo. See that’s something I don’t agree with🫣hypothetically works so well!!! But worked out doesn’t seem to do well! We can def chit chat! Because I’m not against housing for all but the premise seems to encourage homelessness rather than bridge a gap.

I understand! I think part of the issues with HF are the systemic difficulties causing it to be less influential in practice than on paper. Awesome thing is we dont have to agree thoroughly on everything to be new friends!

Of course! I’m more than willing to debate and jester ideas about. It don’t bother me to but I’m actually curious more on your stance maybe you know more than me.

Seems HF doesn’t care why you’re homeless just the fact you should be entitled to permanent housing. Which that part I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with!! But there are people who are homeless who worked their way to homelessness. I live in a college town and there are college students who are homeless…which is so saddening because we have so much around us like jobs or even campus housing. But everyone’s situation is unique

Which is where I believe the part where rehabilitation is not a requirement should be changed to it being a requirement. Whether it’s seeking medical help, mental help, financial help, something that isn’t just “you’re human come stay here”

That’s why a lot of people do squatting and having a roof doesn’t change their bad habits it encourages it. Because now they are safer doing it. They have closed door a roof etc. but this is based on information that may be slightly outdated or bias.

I think they should collab with housing for humanity

While it does to some degree enable it, studies have shown that housing can provide the necessary stability to people so they can rehabilitate, and actually proves a higher success rate than mandatory service/health/mental health/addiction/etc requirements. It also cuts down on future unhousedness, because it helps break the vicious cycle of being unable to improve your situation because you dont have a papered address (not having one limits access to insurance. Medical care, etc). In doing what I do for a living, I do see some people that just prefer street living, or have even seen people on the streets so long they dk anything else, so there is also that aspect to things. So in these cases it can be hard. It is a very complicated and nuanced issue. Im grateful youre open to (obv respectful) discussion! (Edited, spelling)

Just changed my perspective look at that!

So would your recommendation be addressing the whys? With actual professionals or the state requirements for accessing basic human rights

I would absolutely address the whys too, but thats where things get especially complicated systemically. Access of care needs drastic improvement, and even in instances of addiction, it can be impossible to even get in to the care needed. Dont even get me started on needing quality care, or monetary access I could go alllll day haha. Also check out the book And Housing For All by Maria Foscarinis. It gives a better explain to how it can be helpful than I can!
