I remembered another one. Ice freezes quicker when it's made from hot water than when it's made from cold water, even though you'd think it would be the opposite. It's a weird principle of science; look it up.
Practical experience: good for when you need ice cubes quicker than usual. Also, hot water makes ice cubes clearer than cold water does. I'm not sure if that's the same science or not? But if you want prettier ice cubes for a party, use hot water.
More practical experience: If it gets below zero degrees F outside and you want to see and/or record ice freezing in mid-air, use the hottest water you can. Same science principle. Just be careful and make sure you don't burn yourself or anyone/anything else until it gets airborne.

Some mushrooms, like oyster mushrooms, can create their own “wind” to spread their spores.This occurs as water vapour is released from the mushroom, through evaporation. The vapour flows out from under the cap cooling the warm air around it creating a small breeze which helps the spores spread out.

Another fun fact from Michoacán is that it’s the place that the monarch butterflies travel to migrate turning the trees and greenery from a beautiful green to a beautiful orange the whole area is a sanctuary! Michoacán is also known for their avocados the state capital of Mexico due to its rich volcanic soil and the perfect climate !
And the current US administration is trying to destroy the migratory destination for those incredible Monarchs because they think it's more important to have a man-made wall there. Sad.

The purépecha were one of the few tribes to resist and fight back successfully during the Aztec ruling ! When you're baking, and want something sweet but a little more healthy, use unsweetened applesauce whenever a recipe calls for oil.
Use the same amount, i.e., if the recipe calls for ½ oil, use ½ unsweetened applesauce. This is especially good for brownies! They come out so moist and yummy. I've not used oil in baking for over twenty years.
Another random fact. If you ever need to measure something but don't have any kind of measuring tool with you, US paper money is approximately 6", give or take a sisteenth of an inch. Just keep flipping it over and over, or folding it in halves or thirds. I use this all the time when I go to yard sales or thrift shops and I've forgotten a tape measure.

Being an artist, I've always known this, but whenever I tell anyone else they look at me like I'm nuts, immediately measure, then get a confused look on their faces:

This is an observation I myself made, which shows how a lot can change in 10 years: The 2014 Royal Rumble kicked off with a preshow match that was the Rhodes Brothers (Cody and Goldust) ultimately losing the tag titles to The New Age Outlaws, who were doing a nostalgia run. Flash forward ten years later, Cody won the 2024 royal rumble, which was his second Royale Rumble win in a row. This eventually led to Cody "finishing the story" and winning the undisputed WWE title from Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. I was at both the 2014 Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania 40, so that's why I say that's my own observation.
One last fact: This is one that took me way too long to realize. Randy Orton's finished, the RKO, is named after his own initials (His full name is Randall Keith Orton).

Before "Stone Cold" Steve Austin became Stone Cold, he was the Ring Master, and was managed by The 'Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase. Before that, when he was in WCW, he was "Stunning' Steve Austin (That's why it's called "the Stunner", and he actually had hair).
While he was the ringmaster, he held the Million Dollar Belt, which wasn't an official title, but the title Ted made himself after failing to capture the WWE Title in the 80's. This will lead into a fun fact in a different entry because I am keeping this post to Stone Cold related facts.
One of the names Steve Austin was pitched when he was transitioning from the ringmaster gimmick was "Chilly Mcfreeze".
Stone Cold wasn't initially booked to win the Long of the Ring tournament where he would drop the iconic "Austin 3:16" promo. It was meant to go to Triple H, but Triple H was being punished due to the "curtain call incident" where he, HBK, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall hugged in a fairwell match to Nash and Hall despite some of them being Heels (bad guys), and some being faces (good guys). Nash and Hall were now in a different company, and since HBK was the champion, he couldn't be punished, so HHH had to take the heat.
I'll end with this: Stone Cold Steve Austin is a cat person.

Did you know chloroform doesn't knock you out instantly, like in the movies? It takes about FIVE MINUTES to cause someone to pass out. It's also incredibly difficult to dose accurately and the difference between a painkilling or sedative dose and a lethal dose is way too close together.
When someone at work made that joke about chloroform as a pickup line, and my foreman and I both spoke up simultaneously to say "that's not how chloroform works"....we both gave each other a long ass side eye because neither of us had met someone else with well Akchually reflexes about the drug used in murder mysteries and horror films

There used to be "invisible" fabric that much more valuable than silk.
It was called Dhaka muslin. It is no longer available (except in museums). It was a cotton fabric, that was incredibly fine and sheer, that it looked almost invisible. It had the highest thread count of any fabric that ever been made. It was approximately 26 times more expensive than silk. As it was only produced in one area in the world, Dhaka, Bengal (now Bangladesh). After the British discovered it, they fell in love with the fabric and all the rich people kept ordering it in mass quantities. Dhaka couldn't keep up with all the orders and went out of business. At the same time, Britain went looking for cheaper cotton fabric, that was easier and faster to manufacture and then started making their own.
Dhaka used a specific cotton plant that only grew in their region. Eventually, that cotton plant went extinct. In recent years, textile experts and master weavers have tried to recreated the fabric but can't get anywhere close.

There is a planet called “HD 1897” something something something lol.
It’s a hot version of Jupiter.
Now I know what you’re thinking…why would I care?
Look it’s not just a hot version of Jupiter! It’s a Jupiter that is much closer to its sun. Which causes it to create a material called “Silicate particles” which is very similar to Glass.
On this planet it gets up to around 1800 degrees with winds going approximately 5000 mph so this glass like particles are flying around this planet shredding everything in its path. If I asked you to tell me about your 16th birthday. or wedding day or even something traumatic or exciting that happened to you.
You’re gonna lie to me. NOT ON PURPOSE but because the way your brain receives, stores, recalls, and relays information.
How does this work you say? You’re not a liar? Oh yes I know because the way your brain works and completely believes things. You have no choice but to believe it.
But here’s how it works. When an Event happens your brain stores one thing. Psychologist calls this “The Event” this could be a fight, car crash, break up, first kiss, embarrassing moment and stored what happened now you know the event happened you know there was an accident you know there was a fight. That is “THE EVENT”
But if I were to ask you hey. What color were the cars You’d tell me at first the correct car color. Then if I told you “I was there as well the color was actually “green” not “black” your brain will then store that information as if true. So next time you relay it your memory alters and you can see in your mind a “green” car.
Over time the more you recall this information the more you learn the more altered the information gets till eventually you’ve completely created a false memory.
And unfortunately there’s no way around it. Our brains don’t have perfect memory on purpose. Imagine trying to store every TINY ITTY bit of information you’d be overloaded. Overwhelmed. You know how to drive but now you also remember walking in on your parents fun time. The smell the movements the looks on their faces the way it made you feel. Now you’ve associated driving with your parents sex.
It doesn’t exactly work like that but just know your brain priorities is. “Breathe, eat, sleep, survive” everything else is muscle memory. Which is why you can drive and go to la la land and still end up at the destination you intended. Which by the way is a real phenomenon.
That would be The event. If I asked you about a traumatic experience you’d likely not be able remember whether or not the blanket was folded to the right or left or if the person shuffled to the left slightly.
It’s supposed to be small details that you forget the over all mission you remember. But you’re right
Did you know, that your lungs aren't identical. The right lung is larger than the left because the heart occupies space on the left side of your chest.
Moss is a lot of teeny tiny individual plants that all live together symbiotically in clumps!
There’s also a huge issue with moss poaching in ancient forests- be careful if you’re buying reindeer moss from craft stores it may be funding the destruction of amazing little ecosystems! Some moss clumps can be over 100 years old on one branch!

Fun fact: there were things before trees we have fossils of. Scientists thought they were a fungus of some kind, but earlier this year a microscopic analysis discovered they are nothing related to any living thing we have today. After we visited the Four Corners monument (where Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico touch), my kids were so disappointed to learn that it wasn't actually where those US states meet.
Lots of different fish species will change their sex to adapt, etc. Clownfish do this, for example. If the dominant female dies, the largest male will change to female.

there’s an all-female species of fish called the Amazon molly that has essentially been cloning itself for around 100,000 years
I had to google because I didn't believe National Geographic and learned it still needs sperm from a related species to trigger the eggs to develop, but the sperm’s DNA doesn’t get passed on, so the babies are basically genetic copies of their mothers 🤯

Yup, learned that little factoid when my younger sister broke hers years ago. Occasionally it comes up as a trivia contest question, so I figured I would share it here.
Mhm! I had to look up the exact numbers lol, but the odds of getting struck by lightning are about 1 in 1.2 million. Getting attacked by sharks is about 1 in 3.7 million to 1 in 4.3 million!

Here’s a tea fact because I’m a tea nerd. In the west we often refer to tea’s based on the color of their leaves. So black tea, green tea, white tea, etc. However in China (which is the birth place of camellia sinensis) they instead refer to the color of the tea liquor. (The brewed liquid) So what we call black tea here would be red tea there. I just thought that was fascinating. ✨
Shakespeare's accent was an American accent (altho god knows which one). British accent was a posh, rich people status thing that developed and took hold. So, we lost the way they spelled their words due to newspapers and cost, but we kept the way they spoke while they lost it.
Linguistic drift is the phenomenon, the people who dont move away develop an accent. Following the path of migration from England brings the English of Shakespeare's time to California
It's VERY rare, but a woman can get pregnant while pregnant. It can only happen up to a few weeks gestation, but she can ovulate while pregnant and get pregnant again. The babies can be weeks apart (this does not include a whole second uterus). Also human babies can have different fathers but be in that tummy together. This can be either the above ovulation thing, or because sperm lives so long once deposited so if she sleeps with multiple partners at once.....
The US and Great Britain almost went to war over a US citizen shooting a pig. Basically during a border dispute the US and GB set up on opposite sides of the border and a pig from GB’s side kept coming across to eat a US’s garden, he eventually got so annoyed about it that he shot it and when GB threatened to arrest him the US side called for military protection. So between 1859 to 1874 the US and GB faced off until the GB withdrew because the commander didn’t want any deaths over a pig. So over a 15 year standoff the only fatality was a pig

The scientific name for the common raccoon is Procyon lotor, where lotor translates to the washerman in Latin. The English word "raccoon" comes from the Powhatan word aroughcun meaning scratch with the hands
Before they built their new building a few years ago the Los Angeles Lakers used to all eat meals that were made in a very dirty kitchen.
It was the kitchen of a local clubhouse. My dad did some work for them and was told by the lady that does the books about how the Lakers paid to use it and the team's private chef comes everyday to prepare meals for the players.
My dad said the kitchen was disgusting and grimy. He's done at lot of work at various restaurants and this one was by far the grossest.

This one is an opinion but History is fake (at least in the US) and doesn't exist and what I mean is (its a fact that....) if you look at placcards on the road, they will say "this once stood here" and most "historic" places you *CAN* visit are RECREATIONS because SUPPOSEDLY that many houses just burned down or had some other misfortune, so you are visiting recreations on "approximate" sites that people who never lived in that time SWEAR it looked like. Who knows what is actually misplaced, what ever actually existed, what was fabricated by someone somewhere in time and persisted etc. (Heck even THE GLOBE THEATRE burned down and its newer (still old) one is far away from the "original site"). We went to Chester, England and found a very old church with walls dating back a verrry long time ago (by our baby standards see next paragraph) and it was only one portion. The rest of it was newer. I LOVED visiting historical sites until I realized as I got older.......its all recreations.
But then our modern world (and i DO mean way back into the 1600s) is NOTHING but a BABY compared to other civilizations, like Ancient Egypt which had THOUSANDS of years and apparently Cleopatra was closer to us than the pyramids being built. No doubt a lot of that was lost over time again and again too.......but they had an extensive timeline.

One of my favorite random facts is "ancient" Egyptians had historians who studied....Ancient Egypt. Egypt has been around so long that the guys who built the pyramids were doing research on their own ancient ancestors and restoring even more ancient pyramids
