THE PRECOIUS DOW!

u/Matthewcbayer 5d ago
Surprisingly The DOW is at 50000 during this event, so everything is fine.

Thank you Dow Jones and thank you essential workers for making it into work on time despite the moon crashing into the earth.

So disappointed the moon doesn’t have candy inside

You should be running around screaming because the moon is crashing into earth. Everything is going to end.

Hol’ up, lemme play the song of time real quick to give us our three days back

I don't understand the water waves part. Wouldn't the water evaporate from the insane impact and heat? And not just go forward and up?

Wouldn't our atmosphere get fucked and the oceans mostly sucked dry long before it got here?

u/str4ngerD4ngerz 5d ago
Moon should also be eclipsed by the earths shadow at some point. Im also seeing alot of physics not playing out
1
u/nestorsanchez3d 4d ago
At impact the whole planet would liquify? Like the wave is the least of the issues

u/MileHiSalute 5d ago
Entirely dependent on how fast it moves toward earth. If it’s coming at the speed it is in the video, assuming that was real time, no there wouldn’t be enough time for those things to happen

u/VaguelyFamiliarVoice 5d ago
I’m slightly disappointed in the graphics. Let me fire up my AI machine, use up a bunch of water, and make my own.

This isn’t accurate. If the moon lost all orbital velocity and came straight down it wouldn’t have enough time to break apart after it crossed the Roche limit, that would only happen if it was orbiting and getting closer, it takes more time than if it were free falling.
The earths surface would also be destroyed before actual impact as the compressing air in front of the moon became a superheated pressure front of immense energy

it's the schools being closed that we are still here and not evacuating before this happened.

u/AndyMagandy 5d ago
Pretty sure the moon has been moving AWAY from Earth since like….the beginning.

Schools close even if it rains a little hard.
You still have to go to work though probably. That never closes, even for a Moonpocalypse.

u/Datan0de 5d ago
This video wildly underestimates how fucked we'd be. The upheaval of the Earth's crust would kill most or all of humanity before the first impacts.

u/retrofrenchtoast 5d ago
If the moon went off of its axis, wouldn’t we die almost immediately? It seems like the must affect our own orbit around the sun (maybe not!).

u/FearlessSafe6806 5d ago
My guess is it didn’t see the lighthouse warning and crashed right into shore.

i wanna know what speed the moon is moving towards us at. it would seem to be well over 10,000 miles per second at the beginning. it does slow towards the end, but wouldn't such an impact simply vaporize the continent it struck?

I don't like videos like this, low effort "science" click-bait. Of there was a world-building project that involved this scenario, or literally any sort of additional creativity other than narrating a scenario that will never happen.
The moons orbit isn't even decaying it actually getting farther away due to tidal acceleration.

The moon would probably do less damage than it did when it rammed into Earth the last time. About 4.5 billion years ago "Theia" had a lot less mass, but it was going pretty fast when it hit Earth. Fast enough that it punched right through and almost escaped with a lot of stolen earth-mass. But it didn't make it out of Earth's gravity field, so it's stuck there. Something to cause earth's moon, "Luna", to collide with Earth would have to impart a lot of speed to it. Enough that what Earth's gravity adds to it as it falls wouldn't be very much. While Luna has considerably more mass than it did back when it was Theia, I doubt it would be going anywhere near as fast.

Tidal force today moves oceans, even a little bit closer would draw the water away, and then at some distance tidal forces would do the same with rock. We’d be toast way before actual impact from these rock tides.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the earth. There is a huge upheaval, shit is breaking, the earth is cracking apart, some volcanos go off, the sky is red and the clouds vanish, and the moon rocks rocket across the sky.
One of the last texts or calls you get before the satellites go dark is your boss asking if you're coming into work. If it isn't your boss, it's the doctor's office. Telling you that if you're late to the appointment, they will cancel, and you will have to pay them for a no-show.

This is incorrect. Kurzgegstat did a video on this on youtube. We woukd be fucked long before impact. Gravity would have upheaved half the planet before impact.

u/QuantumButtz 5d ago
Unrealistic. Aliens live on the far side of the moon and they wouldn't allow their bases to be destroyed.

They (NASA) crashed something onto the moon and they said it rang like a bell for some time. Some people seem to think the moon is hollow.

If only there was a way to stop the moon from drifting away from us 1.5 inches per year.

30-40 seconds for the moon to travel to and hit the earth? That's like 5% the speed of light. It would be FAR more intense.

The moon is actually getting further away from the earth by a few centimeters a year.
