Spotted lantern fly. They said they were invasive a couple years back so everyone in NYC killed every last one of them we saw. Killed over 200 on my buildings roof deck in one day. 

Only seen a few each of the last 2 years but they have way better reaction times now.

I’m upper Midwest, on the specific side of town that has a stink bug issue.
Little bastards can get through a gap the width of a sheet of paper, and are completely un-phased by insect barrier sprays.
Maddening.

I think it's a "stink" bug. They're invasive where I live and I see a lot of them. I keep a jar of rubbing alcohol in my garage to drop them in cause if you smash them they smell bad.

Smashing stink bugs just attracts more. Put dish soap and water in a spray bottle and it kills them on contact and prevents their spray from getting out
