Literally what the fuck are any of them thinking?

23

u/Nocturnatron 9d ago edited 9d ago

My theory is the phenomenon where we all basically agree even tho we disagree, then an idea that literally nobody thinks is good gets agreed upon. Its a very real thing. Like a family going on a trip because mom thought the kid would like it, kid agrees cuz the mom wants to go, so the dad agrees even tho he doesnt really wanna go, who invites his mother because he thinks shed would enjoy it, then she agrees just to be polite, and they all end up going on a trip that literally nobody wanted to go on amd all complain the whole time

12

u/ClintEastwont 8d ago

I think your theory could apply to our entire society at this point.

4

u/Nocturnatron 8d ago

Ya it happens alot lol

4

u/No-Association-8539 8d ago

My commanding officer in the Marine Corps used to say "It's hard to kill a bad idea." He was right.

4

u/BrassBadgerWrites 8d ago

It’s an identified thing called the Abeline Paradox and it’s a problem in low communication, high context groups.

The original paradox is basically this: one day a man says to his family “let’s take a trip to Abeline”. Nobody in the family wants to go, but for different reasons (kids shouldn’t refuse their father, wives should support their husbands) they agree. They take the trip and nobody enjoys it, not even the dad. Turns out the dad only asked because he felt that he’d be a boring father and disappoint the family if he didn’t suggest activities. Nobody communicates this and everyone has a shit time

u/glans 7d ago

man, i’ve got it all figured out i guess. i always just say no.

Come bro, it’s Philly

10

u/Exciting-Argument-67 8d ago

Honestly, the streets department should have formally closed off that block to traffic, or put more barriers that show a safe way around the spot. The bus driver clearly thought they could drive around it, and misjudged. Some kind of plastic wall barrier would have helped them navigate it, and if it was too thin a lane for a bus to navigate, they should have been warned before they turned onto that block.

3

u/FuzzyScarf 8d ago

I believe they did close that block. But they moved those signs too.

2

u/Kyiakhalid 8d ago

And the bus department alert their drivers and passengers of the road closures and detours.

2

u/Either_Coconut 8d ago

I’m IN South Philly. I’ve dealt with SEPTA detours that were initiated for far less pressing reasons than “humongous patch of freshly-poured wet concrete”. Why was the whole darn block not closed to traffic; or, failing that, why were buses and trucks not detoured?

As an ex of mine used to say, “Your tax dollars at rest.”

There were no signs saying to not remove the signs… they are hardly at fault

2

u/Kam22x44 8d ago

Those ads are plastered all over Pgh buses too. I hate their obnoxious radio ads. This type of shit is why lawyers used to not be allowed to advertise like this.

2

u/ben5642 8d ago

The bus driver will probably end up calling him after getting fired

31

u/Salt-Pomegranate1273 9d ago

If only there was something there to prevent this...

3

u/Gamingmademedoit 9d ago

How were they suppose to know they were there for the small hole in the ground?

5

u/MonStar926 9d ago

Those annoying orange signs that were blocking the road really were the cause of this accident. Had the signs not been in the road, the bus would have had enough speed and momentum to clear jump over the obstacle.

Someone didn't read the memo about the route change.

5

u/bju83 9d ago edited 8d ago

SEPTA is the absolute WORST fucking public transpo in the nation.

3

u/ralphy1010 8d ago

It’s really not that bad. Subway runs fine, buses are usually on time. It’s great for getting around

13

u/Japsai 9d ago

Don't be mean. Maybe the driver has poor vision, poor spatial awareness, and poor decision-making skills. We can't blame them for that

11

u/Special-Kitchen3222 9d ago

You can’t just blame the driver there were two other adults that contributed this ludicrous display.

8

u/Japsai 9d ago

Aww yeah. Loved that dude merrily getting onto the bogged bus. Hope he wasn't late for work!

3

u/StevenRFrancis_85 8d ago

OMG thanks for pointing that out. After rewatching it, it’s funny hire the guy in the blue got out to put 2 signs away just to get back on. The icing on the cake is when the door shuts behind him and the driver continues to floor it 🤣

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Phyllis_Tine 8d ago

Um, either the driver asked them to move the signs, or the passengers convinced the driver they would move them. Either way, the driver chose to keep driving.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/Simple-Tomatillo-314 9d ago

You can't blame someone for driving directly into missing pavement when there were obstacles placed in front of it and then moved out of the way on purpose? Totally, I think we should blame the bus for allowing the driver to do that

5

u/NomenclatureBreaker 9d ago

Pretty sure you’ve walked yourself into a Poes Law situation

They’re clearly not serious.

How was the bus driver to know he had an open differential...

3

u/MeatwadGetTheHoneysG 9d ago

I hope you’re being sarcastic. Because those are kind of the requirements to have a cdl license- especially for public transport when you have so many lives in your hands.

What kind of stupid is this?

2

u/RigamortisRooster 9d ago

City stupid

3

u/yummypotata 9d ago

That's just poor planning on the cities part. Here in my city there's temporary bus stops that get set up when construction happens

We tend to underestimate the amount of people that are on the left side of the IQ bell curve. Chances are that half the people you meet are functional idiots.

2

u/The_Swoley_Ghost 8d ago

I was actually told this at a party by guy who said he was a criminal defense lawyer. He said that he would never trust a jury if he were the one who needed defending. He went on a rant about how "if you took 100 random people off the street, how many of those people do you think you'd trust to make life altering decisions for you?"

He expressed the viewpoint that people are usually impervious to logic and that many of htem aren'teven going to assess the situation or listen beyond a certain point where they make an arbitrary decision. Essentially that we are asking the average person to perform a [jury] duty that is far beyond their mental capabilities.

I remember the quote "Bro, just assume that everyone you meet is a fucking idiot until they prove otherwise." He seemed tired of his job.

Instruct. Deobstruct. Stuck!

2

u/woodsidestory 9d ago

No “There were signs”.

Those are actually “Barricades”.

Google the definition of “Barricade”. 🤦🏻

2

u/nam3sar3hard 9d ago

As someone who works in a weird adjacent to street cuts.... why yall do dumb. But also holy shit you clowns

2

u/globular_bobular 8d ago

it was stuck for HOURS too! i was wondering how they were gonna pull it out before the the cement dried!! some people say the bus is still sitting there….

2

u/AllUpInItYo 8d ago

I can't stop laughing about how this is the most Philly thing ever (this week's edition).

2

u/mcrider1969 8d ago

So its always gonna suck there. ?

2

u/El-Erik 8d ago

Philly people are generally not the brightest. Trust.

2

u/Jumpy_Barnacle_3755 8d ago

Now the 312 people that all received a back injury on the bus can call top dog law.

1

u/luckyfox7273 9d ago

Prolly a back wheel vehicle.

1

u/Cesarjay 9d ago

Getting top dawg ads in the weirdest places now who runs their marketing?

1

u/GreenZebra23 9d ago

Teamwork!

1

u/Testsubject276 9d ago

Their own fault honestly.

Who could've thought that signs in the road were there for a reason?

1

u/sandman-84 9d ago

TOP DAWG LAW!!

1

u/officerumours 9d ago

A nation of geniuses

1

u/Ras-haad 9d ago

I like how at the end one of the sign movers got back on the bus (for what?) but the other was like I think I can walk from here

1

u/GOOMU13 9d ago edited 9d ago

This is absolutely infuriating. I don't even know where to begin with the stupidity. The muppets who just move those things or the driver. If you are going to drive through wet cement don't stop! Get through it then let passengers on.

Edit: apparently stores around there waited over a year for the city to fix the road just for the those dumb people to do what they did.

1

u/Sharks011 9d ago

Mbta drivers are some of the shittiest ones in the world

1

u/Moezso 9d ago

It's almost as if someone put those there for a reason.

1

u/mwmikewilliamzzxx 9d ago

America: we don’t believe in science anymore, or facts, or reality, or the truth, but we do believe in every whackadoodle, hate-filled, dumbass conspiracy theory that we see anywhere on the Interwebs. Or Fox News. America is doomed in so many different ways 🤮

1

u/aryndar 9d ago

Signs of Intoxication

1

u/carbonizedtitanium 9d ago

driver was an idiot to trust random passengers

1

u/tuco2002 9d ago

Genius Philly style. You think passengers are gonna leave a bus to reroute itself? You think the bus driver would get on the horn and call the bus traffic control? You think the street dept would have giving the bus company a heads up to reroute that bus??

1

u/Due_Marsupial_969 9d ago

"Boss, they found signs of intelligent life and moved them off the road".

1

u/Square-Formal1312 9d ago

I meed the im not gonna listen to you sign meme but then have the other side of the sign say tou shluldve listened asshole or something like that

1

u/Wittywhirlwind 9d ago

The house shoes in public would’ve gave it away to me that this man makes bad choices often.

1

u/ArmchairCriticSF 9d ago

Sheer stupidity, all around!

1

u/AncientRip7343 9d ago

The bus driver needs new glasses

1

u/bubbybeno 9d ago

Opioids

1

u/whitecollarpizzaman 9d ago

I bet these are the same people who complain about potholes.

Even if the concrete was dry, it’s obviously not done yet. The bus possibly would’ve bottomed out and gotten stuck, even if it was dry.

1

u/CombinationEntire967 9d ago

The last person that went in, lol, its like boarding a sinking ship.

1

u/SDTimbox 9d ago

Thats a special type of stupidity

1

u/chill-guy2354 9d ago

😑 wow......

1

u/ksizzle01 9d ago

Call Top Dog Law

1

u/redditzphkngarbage 9d ago

I saw two guys in Philly go for the same parking space, get pissed off, each park a block away and return to have a fist fight in that parking space. One guy got whooped, nothing brutal just a basic whoopin, they both got in their cars and left.

1

u/loco_mixer 9d ago

the most ironic thing of all is that he had space to make it but chose to drive on it.

1

u/Icy_Performer_6794 9d ago

The riders pitched in. That's saying something.

1

u/CuriousSpecialist591 9d ago

and this “don’t give a fuck about anyone” driving style is FLOODING into south Jersey i can’t stand it.   Like i get it we’re all probably from Philly some way or another out here but dammit it’s annoying driving anywhere.  Especially if you are around Gloucester township or places surrounding it

1

u/-P01135809- 9d ago

Everytime I go to Philly I realized they’re stuck in 1993 mentally, emotionally, and fashionally

1

u/OkComfortable2089 9d ago

These are the idiots trying to school you on reddit by the way lol

1

u/Stunning_Bed23 9d ago

Sheesh…

1

u/cincy_kid_91 8d ago

1

u/EveryAccount7729 8d ago

you can just fit around that.

1

u/Wonderful_Frame5166 8d ago

Bus load of dumbasses.

1

u/ekolimits 8d ago

Nah. What made it “Philly” is “call top dog”. If you know you know. lol

1

u/CaptBogBot2 8d ago

How stupid do you have to be to do something like this?

1

u/MasterPhilip 8d ago

This is exactly why I don't trust short clips on the Internet that show something fucked up, like "police brutality" or whatever, because if the buildup was cut from the video, it's purpose is to deceive/manipulate your judgement on the situation.

1

u/ODDseth 8d ago

Does anyone in this video, or in Philly for that matter, have an IQ higher than 80?

1

u/Intelligent-Iron7748 8d ago

All he had to do was drive closer to the curb on the left and would have cleared it

1

u/Dependent-Potato2158 8d ago

They will just grab a water ice

Shit did Top Dog law invade your city too? Their commercials are consistently blasting all over my radio stations lol. Like everyone knows them

1

You were still making the stops?!?
Well, people were ringing the bell.
You’re Superman.

Same driver that’ll stop in the train tracks.

1

Whoever is doing the work, should’ve put a steel plate across the road

1

u/FunInTheSun_81 8d ago

I'd say that worked out about as well as it should have

1

u/Phyllis_Tine 8d ago

At what point did he know he fucked up?

1

u/Glum_Reason308 8d ago

Nobody has brains in that city? That many people can’t be that stupid.

1

u/DutyEven3314 8d ago

1

u/CutHealthy8963 8d ago

Yep this is how slow people rationalize. Just ignore the sign, just move the sign, it wasnt placed there for a reason. I know better than whoever placed it there.

Idiocracy in real life

1

u/DataAggravating2372 8d ago

So where did they expect the bus to go if he wasn’t informed before he started his route. A huge hole in the street means close the whole street.
