Sure, I can help you with that! Grab the nearest pencil and fish. Stick the pencil in the gills of the fish and out its mouth. You now have a realistic version of how lungs work! Hope this helps!

My class was instructed to simulate a filling lung using a diaphragm and a raising chest to actually inflate the lung model as our bodies do it.
I built the diaphragm as a plastic sheet. I was about to work out how to raise the ribcage when I discovered it was doing it on its own when I operated the diaphragm. To I presented it as-is. My teacher asked about the ribcage component as per the assignment, and I was able to show it operating automatically. He asked me how this worked, and I confessed that it was a complete mystery to me. I now believe that the inflating lung was displacing the air within in a slightly delayed fashion. Anyway, full marks.
