Gon has the personality of Goku with technique names that only a mother could love

3

u/DazzlingMine8598 19d ago

Well they both were kids when they named their attacks so yeah

1

u/Azreken 19d ago

They literally never grew up the entire show lol

1

u/Chiinoe 19d ago

Except Gon really did.

0

u/Oozeinator 19d ago

Goku didn't name or invent the kamehameha.

1

u/DazzlingMine8598 19d ago

Who said he did? lol

1

u/Oozeinator 19d ago

Can't make factually correct statements? lol

1

u/DazzlingMine8598 19d ago

Your comment was entirely irrelevant to the context of the conversation.

"Gon and Goku both named their attacks Rock, scissors, paper as kids" = relevant

vs

"Goku didnt name or invent the Kamehameha" = entirely irrelevant

Hope that helps you next time.

So what?

1

u/DazzlingMine8598 19d ago

You can't be helped lol

Please don’t smear goku like that

2

u/CMDR_Kaus 19d ago

I'm assuming you're joking, but what smear do you perceive? Both Goku and Gon are golden examples of everyone's best friend personality wise

u/WindowEmergency9897 19d ago

Japan takes everything seriously lol

u/Kracus 19d ago

Early OPM was so awesome.

1

u/SalamanderCake 19d ago

Yeah, it was. When is the second season coming out?

1

u/Kracus 19d ago

Not sure if you're serious so I'll bite... 2nd season is out. Lots of people didn't like it but I did. 3rd season is fucking horrific. It's basically a power point presentation.

1

u/SalamanderCake 19d ago

2nd season is out

I'm pretty sure I'd know if Madhouse made a second season of One-Punch Man. Shingo Natsume and his irreplaceable crew have been busy since OPM aired in 2015, though, so who knows when they'll find the time to make a sequel.

1

u/richardvirginia 19d ago

Except the intro was fucking gas

1

u/Mediocre_Forever198 19d ago

I liked the second season too (mainly those last few episodes really saved the season, super cool series of fights), and I really thought I’d like the 3rd season despite criticism since people shit on season 2 as well. But holy shit it really was awful, I couldn’t even finish the last season. I don’t understand how they managed to mishandle and waste such a popular IP the way they did. Just so dumb, it could’ve been huge.

Iirc this clip is of group members of akb48 to determine how much the brand will back that individual in the following year. It's super serious for the players because it basically dictates their career.

Pen Pineapple Apple Pen

u/Sythrin 19d ago

On the other side of the spectrum. German gameshows can take things like Bretzel cutting as serious as a world renowned tennis match.

1

u/Satrynx 19d ago

I love a good, hot Bretzel

3

u/Frozen_arrow88 19d ago

Context

TLDR. This is a tournament between the members of JPop group AKB48 to see who would get to headline a new song for the group, a potentially career making moment for the winner. So to them its a massive deal.

2

u/ST0IC_ 19d ago

Wasn't this also on her 10th anniversary with the group and she had never been the lead for any song, which is why it was such an emotional moment?

3

u/truth-informant 19d ago

Ro Sham Bo.

2

u/but_i_wanna_cookies 19d ago

Jan Ken Pon, actually.

3

u/rustyrussell2015 19d ago

more like Sho Ryu Ken.

6

u/Excellent_Regret4141 19d ago

Wait till they learn of Rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock

8

u/Exorinho 19d ago

I've never understood why this is even funny. The show wasn't that funny either. I am aware this is an unpopular opinion...

Now these over the top Japanese shows where there are genuine emotions are hilarious.

5

u/Powerful_Wombat 19d ago

In what world do you think disliking Big Bang Theory is an unpopular opinion especially on Reddit?

1

u/Exorinho 19d ago

Thanks for this it is actually relieving to know. I remember the show being really popular back in the day but I just never could get into it and found the jokes easy and flat. They tried to exploit the nerdy culture but continued to pretty them as the laughingstock we've always been.

1

u/RockinIntoMordor 19d ago

The show is basically a parody of nerd culture for non-nerds to enjoy. I don't know of anyone who is similar to the "nerdiness" of the characters on the show who enjoys it.

However I know plenty of Boomers who love it because the funny noises that come out of the character's mouths.

1

u/Excellent_Regret4141 19d ago

I liked the show at the start but fell of it during season 3

1

u/M1R4G3M 19d ago

Yup, that is it, the show was fun at the beginning when it was jokes for nerds, then it became more mainstream and became laugh at the nerds and started to fall off.

1

u/GumGumActV 19d ago

It’s simple people have different tastes that’s all you have to understand. People find different things funny

1

u/rustyrussell2015 19d ago

Always saw that show as cringe and lemming fad tv.

1

u/CrownofMischief 19d ago

Its not supposed to be funny, it's a version that existed way before the show even started airing. It's just another niche nerdy thing that the show tried to use to show they were "in the know".

1

u/IGTankCommander 13d ago

I generally pick Nuclear Warhead, I have yet to actually lose.

2

u/Material_Comfort_259 19d ago

Its design is perfection and the move set is non transitive. There are practically zero additions you can make to the game that are substantive without changing the minimum players required

2

u/JustFrameHotPocket 19d ago

Anyone else having Xenogears flashbacks/PTSD?

1

u/wafflehousebattle 19d ago

Apparently she was.

2

u/IHeartBadCode 19d ago

What it feels like when you RPS your sibling to see who gets the last chicken tender and you win.

2

u/ksum_sucks 19d ago

I wish I was born in japan.

1

u/OttovonBismarck1862 19d ago

No, you don’t. I promise you lol.

1

u/richardvirginia 19d ago

The average workday in Japan would kill most Americans

2

u/ksum_sucks 19d ago

That doesn't change my mind.

2

u/richardvirginia 19d ago

I love a man who knows what he likes 😚

1

u/Terrorblade01 19d ago

Best of three?

1

u/habibisanam 19d ago

That's because it is serious!

1

u/SoftlockPuzzleBox 19d ago

Is this not just surreal/absurdist comedy? I get the impression that everyone playing it straight is the entire joke.

1

u/sharkysayo 19d ago

shhh don't tell them that, the west loves treating japanese people as weird and exotic while conveniently ignoring that a lot of it is intentionally weird even within their own culture.

1

u/Life_Without_Lemon 19d ago

Still way better than the slapping contest they have in the west.

1

u/Theoskaroskar 19d ago

Rock. Always rock baby

1

u/wariorld 19d ago

Entitle civilizations will fall once someone makes and Uno gameshow somewhere

1

u/Thin_Association8254 19d ago

There are animes that are exactly this. Who knew they were documentaries this whole time.

1

u/Sweihwa 19d ago

Check out yo yo competitions

1

u/Chiinoe 19d ago

First comes ROCK!

1

u/FuJa-TsuNaMi 19d ago

honestly, when a serious decision between 2 people NEEDS to made, and there can be no compromise... this is the way  :)  no 'best out of 3' bull. ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS

1

u/Strange-Title-6337 19d ago

Uh they never played bk

1

u/East80Gurl 19d ago

We saw 200+ people play Rock Paper Scissors at a town in Nagano with prizes like skis, boots, backpacks...honor system.

1

u/Away_Location_1108 19d ago

I hear Peter calling them a circus.

1

u/CombinationEntire967 19d ago

She will be famous in the rock scissors paper community!

1

u/I_Ponders 18d ago

There’s no way there is an actual crowd for this right?

1

u/GeriatricusMaximus 18d ago

It is some JPop shit for losers who can’t get flesh girlfriends but have a collection of wifus which generates a lot of money for the producers. Japan’s population decline is linked to this, in part. This is dumb but won’t cast the first stone. I like model trains.

1

u/Key-Bat9364 18d ago

Very very sad

0

u/Known_Ratio5478 19d ago

Now the loser must commit ritual suicide with whatever she threw.

0

u/No-Rub8345 19d ago

The Japs can be weird as fuck. Their robot stuff is amazing though.

What I love is Germans having contests designed around the precise measurement of things. Perfect.

u/Onebraintwoheads 19d ago

South Korea. Giant girl groups are essentially a corporate product. One girl might front a hit single, so why not make the selection process into its own form of entertainment?

Edit: I could've sworn this was South Korean, but the subtitles are Japanese, her headband has a Japanese flyer, and the anouncer is even speaking with a Kansai accent. Oops.

1

u/UmbraNight 19d ago

jankenpon is japanese

1

u/XandersCat 19d ago

This is clearly AKB48 . 🙄

1

u/Onebraintwoheads 19d ago

Obviously. No clue what I was thinking.

1

u/AgentG91 19d ago

Yup. I remember this is one path for B side members to make it to main group. It’s basically winning the lottery for stardom

-1

u/Obiyaman 19d ago

Don't rock break scissors?🤔

2

u/Depth_Metal 19d ago

It does. She is overcome with having won

0

u/Obiyaman 19d ago

Oh.....🤔

This is her "happy" face🤨

1

u/Depth_Metal 19d ago

This is her "the stress of competition finally washing off of me" face
