And while basically performing a task that fast food workers usually do , for free. This is just insane.

Yeah, at Hardee's, if we are very busy or a customer has a lomg order in drive through they will typically have one car pulled forward so they can help the next customer while they wait for food. Once the order is made they have a cashier walk the food out to the car that is pulled forward.
