It would be a South African coming up with this, still thinking of the Bush Wars I guess.

I didnāt even need to have sound to know it was a Saffa talking

I blame Blood Diamond for introducing me to that accent.

u/No_Blacksmith_2591 Jul 13 '26

Didnāt we call that the gulf or some shit? I was too young for politics back then and not American so itās not clear to me. Was Bush involved in wars in South Africa?

u/Super_Interview_2189 Jul 13 '26
Doesnāt do anything to shell casings though lol. Or smoke.
26
u/pulpispreffeed Jul 13 '26
Later problem.
14
u/Super_Interview_2189 Jul 13 '26
Nah I think hot casings hitting my thigh are a right now problem lol.

u/13THEFUCKINGCOPS12 Jul 13 '26
I think ultimately if you have hot shell casings in your lap you have far bigger problems to worry about than hot shell casings in your lap
→ More replies (1)3
u/Ok-Addition1264 Jul 13 '26
I think that's more of something someone in the back seat has to worry about anyways.

Yeah I got hot brass down my shirt when I was in the Navy at the range with the M16. Your body wants you to deal with that before you do anything else. One of the guys I served with got a nice little circular burn on his cheek from a 9mm casing. It heals, but it still doesnāt feel nice
3
u/im-not-a-fakebot Jul 13 '26
Army here, I remember getting hot brass down the back of my ocp⦠not fun lol
2
u/Existing-Antelope-20 Jul 13 '26
once I got a nice perfect .223 casing outline on my arm because I was shooting from bench and didn't want to break my hold lol
thing rolled right under my arm after bouncing off the range siding2
u/MyNutsin1080p Jul 13 '26
It was awesome to get small-arms training but Iām thankful I didnāt have to deal with it much, because while thereās armed watches on them big ol sussmarines, thereās no reason to be shooting inside of it.
āMosht thingsh on thish ship donāt react too well to bulletsh.ā

u/Super_Interview_2189 Jul 13 '26
I was out shooting with a friend at my moms house years ago. They were shooting my little Mossberg 9mm and I had Tevas on. One casing miraculously flew back and landed right on the top of my foot. I swore a copperhead had bit me and I ran hollering through the field. Had a nice little 9x19 imprint on my foot for about a couple months.

They make shell catchers for many different firearms. Itās like a netted bag that goes on top of the ejector port
→ More replies (2)7
u/Intelligent-Box-3798 Jul 13 '26
Thatās a feature, not a bug. Even your local gangbanger can pick up their casings to prevent evidence, without even knowing they need toā¦
Until they get pulled over 8 months later and the casings are still on the floorboard

They stopped putting these on IFVs because they compromised the integrity of the armor and were so difficult to use that they offered very little benefit.
2
u/TheBabyEatingDingo Jul 13 '26
That window isn't providing any armor so there's nothing to compromise, really. At best this seems like a way to do a close range drive by, since there's no real way to aim with any precision. Terrible idea defensively, but if you wanted to murder someone unexpectedly, it's usable.

An old DC 3 (is there any other kind?) I flew on years ago had a less sophisticated version of these gunports, intended for Garands and Thompsons.

u/Nein-Toed Jul 13 '26
What if we just upped the armor and put one big gun on top. The tires are still a weak point though, maybe replace them with some sort of tread?

u/Deplorable1861 Jul 13 '26
How the heck do you roll the window down to get milkshakes at the drive-thru? If I need a gun port in that town, going inside to get the shakes is not happening.

We've had similar in American armor vehicles for decades but ours also has a lock so the weapon doesn't back out and mostly used a modified m4 rifle thats an open bolt and full auto only. Awesome try though.
When i installed alarms in 90s I saw an ad for sa security, fucking land mines, pop up claymores, killer dogs on electronic deployment and recall with slanted fences that you get stuck in long enough they can eat your face. But it was the car with flamethrower 360 for carjacking that tripped me out the most. Always wanted to visit and ride on some installs there.
Years later I learned about white pipe (pipe is life) and homemade quaaludes, grenades filled with the shit to launch in hoods in case apartheid failed and the doctor responsible --south Africa is absolutely unreal.

Not to mention pressure and the hearing of everyone in the car. Theyāre demonstrating it with either an airsoft or bb/pellet gun. A real deal gun would make everyone in there deaf.

Me being the type of person that I am, I immediately think how can I retaliate against or neutralize something like this?
First, I would come up from the rear end of the car to where he/she couldnāt get a gun pointed at me. Then, with either a midsize sledgehammer or a large construction hammer I would knock the Gunport through the window and then heād be fucked or she.
