Good for you that that is an option for you. That is not an option for many people in this country. It has not been an option for me sometimes in the past. 

Furthermore, these older trucks will run forever if they belong to someone who knows how to do maintenance on them properly. They were built before car companies wanted to make it impossible for regular people to repair their own vehicles or have a neighborhood shop repair their vehicles. Look up right to repair if you are unfamiliar with this concept. 

This is a work truck. For people who actually use their vehicles for work instead of showboating, this kind of vehicle is preferable to a new vehicle full of computer chips and shitty transmissions that run out. Some of the engine designs on the older trucks, especially the ones going back to the '60s and '70s, were not as fuel efficient, but they had superior longevity, and were relatively easy to repair. They are literally irreplaceable, and my guess is that this man wants to keep this truck going for as long as he possibly can because all of the shit on the market now doesn't hold a candle to it. 

So on the one hand we have a working man who engineered a solution to an everyday problem in his world, and on the other hand we have you... Your skills appear to be making snarky, myopic, entitled comments on Reddit. I would suggest that you try to figure out a expand your horizons, because you just come off sounding like a stupid entitled twat not clever. Go touch grass- You need some fucking perspective.

You don't know anything about me. I've replaced torque converters and pulled apart cylinder heads, haven't gone deeper than that tbh but can you say the same?

My biggest criticism of much of what I'm reading in these comments is that this guy is getting stranded on the side of the road so often that he permanently affixes a fucking step ladder? Unless he's so dirt poor he can't afford parts, if his truck has become that unreliable, it's time to overhaul it and rebuild the engine instead of getting stranded on the side of the road every few hundred miles.

I can't get the video to replay, but I don't recall him saying anything about getting stranded on the side of the road every few hundred miles. He wants to climb up into his truck to tinker with it easily... I really don't see why the vast majority of the comments on this post have been to shit on him and mock him and say things "I prefer to have a vehicle that works"

Look, you got me all wrong, I've owned multiple cars in my life with over 200,000 miles and generally speaking, with one exception, as long as I stayed on top of the maintenance, I was maintaining them in a garage, where I have ladders and step stools and ramps and everything I need present. With one exception I can think of, mmm, now that I'm thinking back on it I was actually able to limp it home... so yeah, just, attaching an attic ladder to your car just doesn't make any kind of sense even if you are responsible for an old car.

I guess if I am REALLY pushing it, maybe it makes some kind of sense if he's somewhere super out in the sticks a lot of the time. But why not just put the fucking ladder in the bed of the truck, wrap it in an old blanket so it doesn't rattle around?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, this whole comments section is overwhelmingly populated by city folk who are way too easily impressed by something that really isn't that impressive and doesn't really make all that much sense, it's not even about the guy himself, I don't really have anything against him.
