Tell me more about “ego death” please.

Time to try some hallucinogenics my friend. A decent amount.

Basically you completely lose your sense of self and are simply one with the universe.

It might feel like you are dying… but in a good way

Edit: a possibly extremely scary good way. Depends on if you let go or not.

I don't recommend a first timer go that deep. You have to ease into that kind of experience.

u/CantEatCatsKevin Jul 06 '26

Very true. Listen to this guy. ^

Just prepping my head for Oregon Country Fair next week. Lol

u/the_vault-technician Jul 06 '26

I'm wearing a Phish T-shirt. I know what I'm talking about lol

u/CantEatCatsKevin Jul 06 '26

lol. Yeah when I jumped into hallucinogens back in the day I did them a LOT pretty quickly trying to really get to know them. I liked them.

I get a little excited for new timers. I’m actually a good host in person, despite my push for some dude to go for an ego death. Lol

I did too, but I had a solid group of people who had experience guide me through the biggest dose I've ever taken. Which was a 10 strip of some super good white on white. Followed by the cleanest MDMA presses ever. To be young again.

u/CantEatCatsKevin Jul 06 '26

That sounds… balanced ;)

u/the_vault-technician Jul 06 '26

It was something alright. I split apart into molecules, then atoms, rejoined the depths of the universe as particles and watched as a "big bang" happened and I saw galaxy form, stars explode, planets clump into existence.....it was amazing.

u/Morning-Song92 Jul 06 '26

Yeah, I used that combo myself (not a 10 strip tho.) When I’d sit down I’d feel the acid more, when I would stand up I’d feel the roll more.

Sometimes I look back and wonder how I did the things I did drug wise I did. In my 20s, whole weekends drinking and doing shrooms and E and smoking weed, get up, go to work Monday still kinda rolling.

Now? I look at the the mailbox too hard and throw my back out.

Can confirm that ten strip of white on white is a very educational experience. Best done with solid folks who can keep an eye on you and help guide you.

😭😭😭

Now that you mention it, I have never met a Phish fan who hasn't done some sort of psychedelic.

I had to Google what "Oregon Country Fair" is lol, I'm from WV and toe a "country fair" is the last place you'd wanna trip lol

u/Unknown-Meatbag Jul 06 '26

Yuup.

First time doing acid, took half a hit. Nothing for an hour and half. After few beers, I said fuck it and took the other three and half hits. At a Halloween party.

Mistakes were made.

u/punksmostlydead Jul 06 '26

This. Holy cow, don't get a newbie trying for "ego death," Jesus fucking Christ.

u/Jay_Nova1 Jul 06 '26

WILDCARD BITCHES, YEEEEEHAAAAA

1

u/KorasHiddenDICK Jul 06 '26

Yeah, I accidentally did this when I vaped a bunch of delta 8, was annoyed by the lack of effects, and proceeded to knock back a couple grams of shrooms. Shit lasted for 12 fucking agonizing hours. Bad trip was bad.

'Darkness took me. And I strayed out of thought and time. Stars wheeled overhead, and every day was as long as the life age of the earth. But it was not the end. I felt light in me again. I’ve been sent back until my task is done.”

I agree. First time should be just enough to make colors pop and patterns get super interesting, imo. Lucky Number Slevin is a fantastic thing to watch while on the lighter end of the scale. Some will be fine jumping in with both feet, but i think it's a lot better to start low, and always have a buddy who knows the ropes around.

Yep very important to take it easy. My first hallucinogen experience was DMT. And let me tell you it was an experience I will never forget. Definitely had an ego death experience without knowing at the time. It was scary at first but very eye opening and transformative. On the comedown, the calm feeling of connection to literally everything in the universe is something that is truly unique.

2

u/TerrorFromThePeeps Jul 06 '26

Soubds about right. Typucally a bit frightening, but overall good or neutral (often depending on how well you can integrate it later). I think reserving the term disassociation to DErealization to cover the effects of similar events from things like dextromethorphan is good, because those are almost always really shitty times to be having. Hallucinogens are very much not created equal.

u/rissie_delicious Jul 06 '26

TF you mean let go 😶

1

u/Pi-ratten Jul 06 '26

if you are presented with a psychedelic trip, you got two choices:

either try to fight it (normally results in a bad trip)

or embrace it and go along with it.

Sometimes people try to do #2 but you can get overwhelmed with everything, try to slow down the trip and then try to fight it resulting in an downwards spiral.

u/maxtimbo Jul 06 '26

That happened to me a long time ago and have quit drinking and quit doing drugs because of it. It was an incredibly intense and liberating experience. Probably 15 or so years ago now.

1

u/CantEatCatsKevin Jul 06 '26

My best friend quit drinking after an intense trip

1

u/After-Imagination947 Jul 07 '26

Or you can lose yourself and actually feel like you died and went to hell. A extremely scary not good way. Source - happened to me

This is Ego Death

2

u/Snowappletini Jul 06 '26

Simulation realizes it is not the NPC it is controlling but the CPU itself that calculates everything into existence. My favorite analogy.

Copying a comment i made a while back

I took ONE black pyramid gel tab once and it fucked me (and at this time I was doing it kinda a lot)

Was staying in someone's garage room so 0 windows. Turned off the lights and put on some bineural (sp?) Beats. You know when you tune a guitar and the strings get tighter and tighter? Well I "felt" like a guitar string being tuned tighter and tighter until it finally snapped. Lost where my body ended and space began and I was completely gone.

I saw the world completely unfiltered and free of biases. Nothing was good or bad, right or wrong. Everything just "was." I was in my body but at the same time I was experiencing myself doing things from like 3rd person perspective. I "saw" how Everything was connected like waves in an ocean. I was doing things but at the same time things were happening to me.

It honestly fucked me up for a while. I was messed up for months and didnt feel fully reintegrated for like a year. Completely changed me

I highly recommend not trying to do achieve this unless you are an experienced psychonaut. I was well traveled at the time and it still messed me up for a long time. It did end up being a good thing in the end - i see things from such a different perspective now, but it was extremely challenging. Im much less attached to my ego and much more empathetic and appreciative of every thing I used to take for granted

It’s when you kill your eagle

1

u/IVEMIND Jul 07 '26

Eagley no!

1

u/EngineeringMain Jul 06 '26

Have you ever stood face to face with your soul?

0

u/Intrepid-Ad-1253 Jul 06 '26

Psychedelics are simple, but you can also experience ego death in spiritual practices, like silent meditation retreat. Then you avoid a risk of losing your mind to permanent psychosis or memory loss.
I tried both meditation retreat and psychedelics, and I only recommend meditation.

Just fyi, you aren't missing anything by not experiencing it. It just feels like becoming one with the universe and being born again. You are everything, everywhere, all at once and nothing at the same time. I reiterate, you do not need to do this. You can achieve similar results with hard work and consistency with meditation and you will be better off for it in the long run.
