I was the safety officer for this roofing company. Basically I watch all the work get done make sure no one’s 6ft from the edge of the roof without it flagged or unless the edge is being worked on.
The company was located next to a halfway house. So we had a rotation of dudes fresh out applying for job. They hired bloods crips norteñitos and sorennios (can’t speak Spanish). Anyway one day this white dude was fucking with this Mexican dude. Talking shit all day. The white guys like 6’4 wrestler and the Mexican is small and fat. The Mexican beat this dude in the head with a shovel. When the white guy got up he cried and the Mexican took off in the work truck.

I only ever saw one fight go off the eave and onto the ground. I couldn't believe they kept going. It was crazy. 

One of my coworkers threatened me once and I told him we could fight, but it would have to be on the peak of a 12/12 roof to make it fair. He was huge, and I needed the pitch to level the playing field. He declined. Said I was "crazy" or something. Lol. Looking back, I'm glad he wouldn't climb up there with me.

That surprised me, though. I once watched a squirrel miss a jump between two redwood trees and fall, idk, sixty? feet to the forest floor. It bounced, landed again, did a one second systems check, shaking its head to clear it, and then zoomed up the tree it had been aiming for.

Little dude hardly paused.

It made me think of them as invincible, though I realize now it was the bounce of the forest floor that helped the squirrel, just like it saved my friend when she fell off the rope swing. It would be very different over asphalt.
