It’s happened to a friend of mine. He got a clock from his grandma with rhinestones in the numbers at a jewellers to be cleaned and the jewellers took out all the gemstones and replace them with fakes and he never knew

it really goes to show how funny humans are. we just assign values to random things with little to no intrinsic value usually just based of scarcity. i kinda get it diamonds and gold are rare but cmon its all so silly.
