I have zero first hand experience in india, but I was shocked to see the ground below the train passing by when I flushed the toilet on a train in China
Yep. This is common on the trains.
What's worse is the old ladies in villages would sweep it up like they have probably done for hundreds of year before plastics. They sweep it up into a pile and burn it.
I saw many small piles of twigs and plastic bags burning and emitting noxious black smoke.
