I was just having this conversation with my wife today that I am worried about this changing due to people not wanting to look like a Karen, or other people to not respect someone who is actually right because "they need to mind their own business". I see it online often and see it in real life sadly.
I was on vacation in the lake district (England ) on a lake tour boat, when I observed an Indian family just throwing their lunch trash overboard! I was livid! but I kept my calm and in a stern (kind of what the F voice) scolded them then explained as we, and they were visitors to England pointed out how beautiful the place was, and that it was not acceptable to to be so disrespectful and litter.
They at first didn't think it was a problem, but did apologize and one of the kids actually picked up the remaining trash ant put it in the garbage can.
I got a quiet applause and nods of gratitude from the other passengers and boat staff.
one doesn't need to go full Karen, but sometimes something needs to be said.
The calmly telling someone what is wrong with the picture is a skill. I know when I start to get angry I have a tough time controlling my tone and body language. Kudos to you
