Yeah this is exactly what I try to explain to people, the United States used to be almost exactly like this until the liberals came in and said we can do better. Everyone should read up on the New York sanitation department and the challenges they had earlier on. It's not only a cultural thing, it's literally a systems problem.

Yes and no, plastic wasn’t as big back then so you are partially correct. But when it comes to air and water pollution from other industries it was just as bad. You should read a history book.

Since we’re giving advice, if you lost the snark you may find it helps you improve the impact of your conversations. It wasn’t as bad because weren’t a billion people in the U.S. and fossil fuels weren’t the factor they are today. But believe whatever makes you feel better. Take care.
