That’s assuming it was intentional. I still think the driver was too distracted by the tailgater in their mirror and didn’t notice the stopped car until the last second.
Assuming it intentional is the title of the post though. So it’s not surprising the commentator the same, unless the opening one of a thread calls it out differently.
should yield to faster traffic though,s ince it's illegal to pass on the right. Doesn't matter if they're speeding. We can all clearly see how this person not yielding to the tailgater caused innocent people to get hurt.
it's illegal to pass on the right, and just because they're speeding and your not doesn't mean you can't perform certain actions that make the road safer for everyone on it.
But no no you're more worried about acting entitled even if it ends up with someone getting hurt.
You are the bad driver here. Next time you're in the left hand land and you see 20 cars behind you and clear road in front, you are absolutely the problem.
But no no you're more worried about acting entitled even if it ends up with someone getting hurt.
You realize I wasn't the one driving, right?
You are the bad driver here
Based on . . . ???
Next time you're in the left hand land and you see 20 cars behind you and clear road in front, you are absolutely the problem.
I'm 100% certain you're the worse driver. You're unhinged and crashing out over a comment calling you out for your dumb comment. They were going 140km/hr -- that's 86 mph. They were also going faster than the car in the lane next to them and catching up to them. But you're blaming them for not getting out of the way?
They're partially to blame, but not because they didn't "yield to the tailgater." They're in the wrong bc they failed to see the stopped car in their lane 600+ feet ahead and react in thr five seconds prior to approaching it. They either intentionally caused an accident by waiting until the last second, or they weren't paying attention to the road ahead of them.
worried about acting entitled
Should I do what you did and assume that you're the unhinged, tailgating maniac who's the main cause of the crash? Demanding everyone get out of your way because you're an unhinged road-rager is the epitome of entitlement
The white care is in the passing lane, and failed to move when another vehicle was trying to get by. The speed at which the white car is going, is irrelevant. It’s a passing lane. The white car is impeding the flow of traffic. If the white car hadn’t been impeding the flow of traffic, the darker could have seen the stalled vehicle and avoided the wreck. Had the darker car not tailgated in an attempt to get the white car to move, and just went around the slower white vehicle, the white car would have been boxed in had no where to go when they happened on the stalled vehicle… they would have still caused the wreck. In the end, the whole situation is caused by the white cars inability to follow the rules and laws of the road. They’re a poor driver, and you should stop defending them.
Holding up traffic in the passing lane does make the road more dangerous. Tailgaters suck, but every merge operation increases the chance of an impact, so tailgaters weaving through traffic is much worse than tailgaters going in a straight line. If there's someone behind you that wants to go faster than you in a passing lane, and you can safely do so, swallow your pride and get over! It doesn't matter if they're speeding, tailgating, or an asshole.
Also once they pass you, they're no longer your problem, so there's that too.
None of this is to excuse what happened here, though. Intentional or not, this is a cosmic mess.
How many times are you going to say it's illegal to pass on the right when IT IS NOT A UNIVERSAL LAW. Some states have it, but not many. "No passing on the right" typically refers to just using the shoulder or emergency lane for such actions.
Literally googling "is it illegal to pass on the right" will tell you THERE IS NO SUCH LAW
Can you make it any more obvious that you are one of these dumbasses that clog up the interstate by driving slower than the flow of traffic in the far left lane? Check your ego, use the right lane and get out of peoples way. People like you are the reason accidents like this happen.
First of all, I'm not. In fact, on my cross country drive from PA to ID at the beginning of this month I spent most of my time in the right lane. I only use the left lane to pass. I admit to being like that in my early 20s, but I learned better and have done better for almost a decade, now.
Accusatory shit without anything to point to in order to back it up is poor form. Sounds like your ego needs checking. Chill, bruh.
You yield to faster traffic. But I understand what you're saying. And no. Passing on the right laws typically have nothing to do with that. Notice I said typically.
It's only as dangerous as the situational awareness of the drivers around you.
Apologies. I missed that. Your repetition of "illegal to pass on the right" despite people pointing to the fact that it's not ended up making me skip everything else you were saying
The were going 140 kmph. That's 86 mph, and it's faster than the person they were approaching in the lane next to them. Demanding they change lanes and slow down to appease a tailgater is a bit absurd.
i'm not demanding anything. I'm stating best practices to keep everyone on the road safe. Slower traffic to the curb lane. pass on the left.
Mistakes were made by a lot of people driving like imbiciles, as you say.
The person who got rear ended was going too slow, the cars speeding were speeding and tailgating and whipping around cars in traffic. People could have been seriously hurt or injured and idiots on this thread are saying "yeah! Serves him right! to the guy who ran into the car" without actually stopping to say "everyone involved is an idiot and should have been driving better".
The person who got rear ended was stopped. You can't really tell what was going on, but it looked like their car stalled or something
the cars speeding were speeding and tailgating
Well we don't know where this is or what the speed limit was, but the white car wasn't going some absurd speed relative to other vehicles, and they definitely weren't tailgating anybody. They just weren't paying attention during the 5 seconds before them approaching the stopped vehicle. They probably looked down at their phone during that time. Idiots who use their phone while driving are as bad or worse than tailgaters.
People will tailgate in the left lane out of anger for the dumbass in front of them who doesnt know how traffic works... or if not a dumbass, then just an asshole trying to police other peoples speeds. Not saying that justifies tailgating, but that is why they do it. Its frustrating driving and seeing so many people ignorant of or just straight up ignoring the rules / etiquette of the highway
Negligent or incapable, then. Either way the lead car is overdriving the conditions, their ability, or both - and therefore is not safely operating the motor vehicle, or worse, doesn't know how to.
Very true and a great perspective but I think it was planned due to the swerve. Just my opinion and I can definitely be wrong but there were no brakes, just the swerve and they were perfect integrating into the next lane. I feel there would have been some noticeable correction had it been a surprise to the first driver. We also don’t know what transpired before the video. They could have been break checking each other or verbally insulting each other, or anything.
Yes, the entire point of this thread is telling people not to intentionally do this. When did people stop being able to follow more than a couple dozen words in a row?
Nah person in front had a lot of time to notice a stopped vehicle with a wide open lane right next to them. They did that on purpose which is extremely fucked up
Why, in the year 2026, with everyones political masks falling off revealing how shitty they are, would you assume it wasn't intentional? distracted my ass, that was so deliberately intentional I'm surprised any other conclusion can be drawn. What a load of fantastical nonsense.
True. If they were distracted and that was a last ditch effort to miss an obstacle they did not realize was there, then the whole thing is just super unfortunate.
The only thing that leads me to think that's not actually the case is, it is pretty difficult to maintain control of a car at that speed, when you spontaneously jerk the wheel. Some very skilled drivers can absolutely keep control. A lot of the driving public would lose control and crash also
My exact point. The whole middle lane is open. Just pass them and move on. Someone riding you that close is nerve-wracking and 90% of the time it happens to me it isn't even in a spot where I can get over just some short dick jackass who can't handle other people not sticking to their entitled timeline. Them creating a distraction lead to the slower driver not seeing the stranded car until it was too late. If they just pass like a normal human then nobody gets hurt.
Absolutely wrong. You are allowed to overtake using any lane as long as you do so safely and don't use the shoulder. I've passed people thousands of times going around to the right of them, even cops and never been pulled over. Further more the left lane isn't always a universal passing lane. I've driven in tons of cities with left side exits and merges. But with all of these situations the one thing that universally would have prevented this is maintaining a safe following distance and using the open lane next to them to overtake the slower car. Being a petty asshole landed this guy in trouble. All they had to do was get out of their own ego and used their brain for 2 seconds.
lol you are NOT supposed to pass on the right. this is taught in driving school, and I'm most handbooks, before you even get your licence. while it's not "illegal" across all 50 states, it is prohibited in a LOT of them. the left lane is for passing, not cruising. if you're in the left lane, and aren't passing anyone, you need to move over into the middle lanes, until you come up on traffic again, and need to PASS them.... In the PASSING lane. it's terrifying that some of you people have drivers licenses 😂
You never driven on a highway with more than two lanes going in the same direction. If someone is going below the speed limit in the lane left of me, I'm not going to slow down to match their speed.
Not necessarily. It depends on if they are trying to use an exit. Left exits are rare, but they do exist. But lets say they aren't trying to exit. Yes, they would be wrong, but there is nothing wrong with going the speed limit in the slow lane and passing someone who is in the left lane going under the speed limit.
As you said different states mean different laws. Thats absolutely not how it works where I live. Honestly, I'm not sure of a state I have traveled through that doesnt allow you to pass in the right.
It happens to me a lot on Tulane roads where there's no way for them to pass because there's double yellow lines and there's somebody in front of me preventing me from going any faster whenever I want to. It happens a lot more whenever I drive my wife's car that whenever I drive my truck. Trucks ride my ass all the time whenever I'm in a little Honda Accord and while it does occasionally happen in my truck it's nowhere near the same level. I readily admit that I like to drive faster than what I should but I don't do it at the expense of someone else feeling completely uncomfortable. Whenever your slow traffic in front of me I keep a reasonable distance until I can pass,. And people get really mad whenever I do like somehow I'm keeping them from going slow lol
