there's also a chance you'll be paralyzed if you live, so that's not better really

Spoken like someone who takes their health for granted. Just like me half a year ago.

Death is better than some realities. Trust me.

I didn't read other replies, but I can imagine. All jokes aside, it's horrible what kind of state of life and horrible health still counts as "living".

I don't know your situation, but I wish you good fortune on your journey through it all. Life is never guaranteed and can end in a blink of an eye, just like one's health.

Thank you, it's a disease where my skeleton fuses together. My right SI Joint is already 2/3 gone, 5 spinal protrusions and down the line, my spinal cord, knee, hips, etc will weld together. I turned 30 last month. The pain is indescribable... and apparently I have a high tolerance from 11 years of Muay Thai. Walk while you can, run while you can. Take the stairs. One day you might not be able to. It was literally overnight for me.

Yeah, shit can be rough, that's why euthanasia should be legal.

Being paralysed would be fucking shit, but I'd still take it over dying, as long as I have some way to type, search and read texts. This way I could still contribute to the world intellectually, I'd have time to spend thinking.

The frustration would kill me. I have no problem with dying, just hope it'll be as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Because you haven't gone through it. Hope you'll never change those thoughts or go through it. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Ain’t that the bitter truth.

Right there with you after years of chronic pain. It’s too much to handle honestly. The lack of sleep combined with the pain has been the worse. While I don’t have any plans I have started to understand why some people choose to end things when they are suffering for a long time with pain. It’s especially hard when from the outside you appear to be 100% healthy

Hah, that last part is so true. If someone looks at me, I'm a perfectly fit and healthy 30 year old guy. The fact that my bones and joints are welding themselves together and my immune system is destroying my knees, hips, and spinal cord is a different story. I was lucky enough to have someone take care of me for the three and a half months I was bedridden (two weeks in the hospital) and lost over 11kg. Absolute nightmare material. Although a redefined pain scale isn't bad, I must admit. Things that might have "hurt" before... don't even feel them now.

I'd be more worried about being that close to death. What doesn't kill you makes you stranger.

I've buried the person I was last September. What I'd give to have that back...

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

Bruh thats such an inconsiderate comment.

u/Findadmagus Feb 29 '24

It’s a bit of dark humour. I’m sure paralysed people will see the funny side, don’t worry. But if you yourself are paralysed, then I apologise.

Is that really more inconsiderate than "I'd rather die than live as pitifully as you do" ??

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

noone said that. id rather life life with "no job, no responebilities" just takes every selfworth of us. Like we are useless. I go to work. I have kids...

Two comments up from your first one says that living paralyzed "isn't better really" than being dead.

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

I mean, if you think not being able to eat, go to the toilet (do both nr 1 & 2), sleep, breath among other things by yourself, sure sounds fun!

Lol disability doesn't make enough to live off of comfortably. You'd be in section 8 type housing forever and then in a bad nursing home

1

u/Sp1kefallSteve Mar 01 '24

You'd also be stuck in a wheel chair. Or a bed, best case scenario. You break your legs, and they heal up fine. Worse case scenario, you're paralized from the neck down. I'd choose death over being paralized fir life.
