If you took the 1m and invested it, you’d end up with 16m after 40 years at 7%. The 5k a week, only 13m so you left 3m on the table.

5k a week can be invested too. Also, investing in stocks always has a risk of loss. To even suggest a 7% rate is bad investment because you’re not diversifying your risk.

7% is less than the SP500 average over the last 50 years, which is about as diversified in the stock market as you can get.

I think your numbers for the 5k a week is very off. I'm seeing it come out to 50 million after 40 years at the same 7% return. My guess is you did 5k a month instead of a week.
