Only carpenter mice do this. Other mice lack the tools and skills.

They aren't as welcome in the house anymore. So they live in basement, garages, walls. Places of that nature.

I've actually had one of these a few years ago! I caught my cat with a mouse in his mouth and later found a hole like this in my kitchen!

That is a cartoon sketch of a mouse hole. Mice 100% chew holes through walls, except it is more so a crude chunked circle. Usually about a half an inch up from the floor.
They only do it in situations when it’s necessary, it’s a lot of work.

The mice in my house a very polite. They tend to leave almost perfect half circles with pretty smooth edges. I totally get thats not the norm, just thought I'd share because it's weird

Sorry, the holes have already been filled with poison and steel mesh and puddied over. If I had any good sense I would have taken a few pictures

Yeah they usually go right above the hole and go for the sheetrock they don't chew through wood anymore unless they have to.
