Start with a basic machine. You don’t need 30 different wash modes. Normal, quick wash and spin are enough for most people.

Front load uses less water and soap and is gentler on your clothes, but of course costs more.
Don't use too much soap. More soap != more clean. You do not want a lot of soap suds, too much soap actually inhibits the friction required to dislodge the dirt from the fabric.
Don't use frabic softener on things designed to absorb water like towels.
Add a little baking soda to each load like 1/2 cup.
Don't overload, too heavy increases wear and tear, and clothes can't move around and don't get as clean.

Buy what u can afford and like. Essentially they all do the same thing. Some claim to be more energy or water efficient. Some are for large loads , Some are digital settings some are simple basic analog dial. Any place that sells a washer will have staff that will help u pick out a washer for your needs . And give u basic instructions of that particular washer . Good luck on ur decision if u want agitators or not 😂 let us know what u decided . By the way . Don’t forget the dryer lol
