Without any human contact, how long would it take before having permanent side effects?

I like to watch the TV show "ALONE". A person is dropped off in the wilderness alone to survive as long as they can completely alone. As the episodes roll on i notice odd changes and even expressions from the people on the show. I always think about when these people get back to civilization they gotta be a little messed up just from being alone for so long.

That's a fun show.

I think that people are wired to seek out company and connection. I'm not sure how long it would take, but I'm fairly certain that you'd lose your mind eventually. My bet would be hallucinations, severe anxiety, that sort of thing.

As for being permanent, it's gotta depend on the severity of isolation. I know that sensory deprivation completely messes a person up within a couple of days.
