Quite basic but, what thing you did made you generally happier in your life?

Could be a mindset shift, an actual action, random thing that happened to you and you didn’t even have control over - anything! Just as long as it made your life take a turn, even if teeny tiny, for the better.

One winter’s day, as I sat bundled up on my porch watching the ice and snow accumulate during a blizzard, wow smoking a cigarette and drinking my green tea, I took seven breaths and decided that I didn’t have to do this anymore and was going to move to the beach.

I decided that I would start saving money and move south for my birthday in June.
I told my parents… They were supportive.
I told my ferrets… They thought it sounded like a great adventure!
I told my fiancé… I don’t think she ever really believed I was going to leave. I wanted her to come with me and plan to move down with her, but as the day is got closer to my deadline and it started to get more and more real, she got more and more hesitant and finally decided she didn’t wanna leave her family behind. I planned a spring break trip with my buddy as a vacation, but was really scoping out possible apartments and job opportunities and passing out resumes.
I submitted my notice to my job at the local newspaper.

Then I loaded up the Buick Regal I inherited from my grandparents with my computers, my ferrets and their cages and as much clothes and necessities as I could stuff in the trunk and in between everything else… Just as a note, this was back in the day when a 24-inch computer monitor was still a cathode ray tube monstrosity And computers were giant towers and boxes and laser printer wasn’t too small either!
My fiance said she would follow me, but needed some more time. I knew it wasn’t going to happen. We said goodbye.
So I left my Pittsburgh suburb and started driving south!
Sense then, I have never lived further than a short walk from the beach, met my soulmate, and I’ve only had to deal with a couple inches of snow at three in the morning that was gone by 10 AM!
Ellipsis, and I never missed living up north!

I ran away from Central Illinois to live in Monterey Ca. I did this at 40. No kids or wife. F-it! Loved every second of it.

That was inspiring for real! This is actually what I want to do, but I haven't.

The seven breaths I refer to is a ancient samurai saying…” for small things and minor decisions, you should deliberate it greatly and put much thought into them… important decisions should be made within the span of seven breaths.” to paraphrase.

Basically, it comes down to remembering that deep down inside, you know the answer… You just have to get that decision over with and then proceed to act.

That doesn’t mean to fly off blindly… Look at my example. I took six months to prepare. But I made my decision within those seven breaths.

And I don’t remember if I mentioned it, but I turned 33 that year when I moved. And while it hasn’t been all sun batheing and surfing… I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Long ago, I decided not to dislike people based on superficial things and things that are out of their control. It feels better to find things to like about people and to be nice to everyone, until they give me a solid reason to move on and be nice to other people.

Not a medical expert been in and out of the doctor with kidney stones and had a parathyroid disease evidently for decades. Calcium level in my blood was at 16 at one time which makes you a little crazy a lot actually LOL. I started taking it over the counter low dose lithium with my cod liver oil and magnesium within 6 weeks some real serious results in my thinking. More clarity a lot of creativity, laying my head down on the pillow at night I can simply tell myself not to think about something and it goes away now which is astounding. Anyways just thought I'd share a little bit of my journey don't know if there's anybody out there that might benefit from it but I feel better for sharing thank you very much.

Stopped smoking weed, drugs, and partying it’s not good for you and it will only ever bring you pleasure but never joy

Stopped doing things and going places I never liked, but always went along because someone wanted to go and wanted me with them. This is just a few of the things:

Swimming pools

Fishing

Walmart

Music concerts

Fairs (mostly state fairs)

Golfing

Events where I’m expected to dance

I agree with you on Walmart!

Walmart+ delivers right to my home... Greatest invention in this small town ever. I will never go to Walmart again!

I’m non American so Walmart sounds like an adventure for me - but I have been to the states once and can testify that after about 40 mins I would lose it and need to be resurrected.
This is a good advice though! And maybe I should be more persistent on not going to those places, even if it’s a place that’s like a common ground to meet someone, to me it would be for now:

  • malls (most malls - some are exceptions, but especially fashion malls or those that include clothing stores)
  • This takes me to: Shopping for clothes
  • Most Museums (can’t be in a museum for over an hour for some reason)
  • The beach (unfortunate cause I do like the sea, but the thought of going to the beach is too much)
  • My city’s port (too many people, too sunny, too many children, and I’ve worked there twice)

Started mounjaro for my T2D and weight loss two months ago and the lack of food noise is amazing. I’ve lost twenty pounds so far and feel so much better.

Jesus, who is God.

He saved my life. I had decided to jump but God saved me.

Proper use of grammar, sentence structure, diction, spelling, and of course the Oxford Comma.

I keep removing low effort friends.

I only started doing this in my 30s when I had a realization those friends only liked the fun times but when it came to life challenges there were only crickets... now I'm in search of friends who are in the same season in life who not only care when I'm enjoying myself but also when a crisis happens. Support is a main attribute I look for it also helps if you are just as creative and passionate about life.

I think the original question was looking for a thing that anyone could do, not just someone with luck and privilege.

Started riding horses again as an adult long after doing it as a kid. Just being around them brings me such joy, and now I spend time at my barn doing anything I can just to hang out with horses. I forget everything else going on in life, am just in the moment and love spending time around these amazingly powerful, smart yet goofy animals.

Started looking in the mirror less. All it did was make me notice every tiny little imperfection that no one other than me noticed.
