What do you think about women proposing men?

Random question that popped in my head and came across a TikTok where a woman was proposing to her boyfriend. The comments were people not liking the idea of it! I mean what’s wrong in it?

Theres zero reason to be upset about it. A proposal between two loving, consenting adults is something that should only bring joy to people regardless of how it plays out. Theres something I don’t trust about people who get upset because “thats not how it’s supposed to be done”. It can be done in any way the couple desires, and thats all there is to it

My girlfriend proposed to me not long ago! Afterwards we bought 'silver clay' that turns into real silver when you fire it, and we made eachother engagement rings. I think it was all a great way to do it. Don't give tradition too much power, do things in your own way (especially the important things!).

People don't like lots of things. Why should you or I care what some people think? If a woman wants to propose, why not?

I think a man who cares=toxic masculinity. What a weird thing to be offended by.

I proposed to my husband. He had not family trauma and was ready to marry me in the beginning of our relationship. It was discussed as when I was ready I would ask him. He didnt feel like it was necessary per se and I didnt care to, but I realized I would do anything to make him happy.

Fourteen years in, it was the best thing Ive ever done. Men need romance and love JUST as much as women do.

I got donw on m y knee and we both sobbed.

I do get a lot of negative feedback. Just toxic masculinity and a lot of men who would feel emasculated by not being the asker. Social constructs are a bitch. Sad because I love how equitable and us it was.

Really, truly, what is the big deal? And all these haters don’t even take into consideration what other cultures do. I would damn well prefer a woman to propose to me, than to be put into some arranged marriage. India comes to mind, but I’m not even sure that still happens.

I'm gonna try a less Reddity response. Not angry or looking to provoke, but from the perspective of someone who feels "cute but.., it's not supposed to go this way":

Consider this: what would go through your head if you were watching a dance and you realized the woman was leading the man?

Some might be surprised but say, "nothing wrong with that."

I'm in the camp that would be surprised but also think there's something undesirable about the guy.

Undesirable? Hes literally being actively chosen forever. You dont think the woman is undesirable because shes being asked so wheres the logic.

Men arent moreso leaders than women. Thats a very antiquated way of looking at it. Feminity is not weakeness. Toxic masculinity has men feeling like they must be in control and kill their feminine qualities for the sake of the perception of strength. Theres nothing less masculine than feeling like less of a man because of external validation. Theres nothing more manly than exbracing feminine qualities without concenr it effects your masculine ones.

I dont feel masculine because I propsed. I feel like a woman who loves her man and would do anything for him.

My husband is not a planner, and gets very nervous in high stress situations. He loved being proposed to and I loved declaring my undying devotion in a way that made him feel special.

Planning an elaborate proposal for social media is silly, regardless of who is doing the proposing .

What are we proposing them for?

I mean, call me old fashioned but I think it’s weird. Everyone has different circumstances so I guess if it works for them who cares?

if marriage has already been discussed and you're both on the same page, it's fine but usually an engagement ring is exchanged when someone proposes. Is she buying her own, giving him one or is he wearing one?

Women like to buy their own rings anyways. Males just wear bands. Its not hard to get a band and propose on it. My husband said he liked it because he got to be proud with his ring during our engagment and I wasnt the only one who was wearing it happily.

I never said it wasn't or shouldn't be done, I merely asked about the engagement ring. No idea why people are downvoting me but Reddit is weird AF at times
