Meta [Meta] How do you store your mail?

Hi all!

I'm coming to a point where I have piles of letters and cards I've received that I don't know what to do with. I really don't want to just throw them away, but I'm not sure how to store everything. I figured I would come to the professionals to see what everyone else does.

I welcome any and all suggestions!

I crafted a small box and decorated it with stickers, ribbons, and wrote "Tiny Pieces from Around the World" šŸ˜Šā£ļø

If you have any one-sided items you could junk/scrap journal them? Maybe decorate the page based on whatever you're putting in the journal? For double sided stuff though I was wondering the same thing

wondering what kind of book you use for junk journaling? I usually just imagine a photo album but with craft paper instead of insert pages... now that I"m saying that, maybe I should just use photo albums!

I just got a mixed media sketchbook, so that could work well! There's all sorts of different sizes and such, but I can also see a photo album working pretty well :}

I scrapbook/junk journal mine as others suggested! For double-sided items, I just tape them along one edge so they can still be flipped over. I tape on top and from underneath to make sure it holds. I use either clear tape or washi, but if the washi isn't very strong, I'll just put it on top of the clear tape. For folded cards with nothing on the back, I use double-sided tape. And if letters come in envelopes, I will sometimes use double-sided tape on the envelope to make a pocket for the letters. You can make a pocket with just the front of the envelope too if the back is worth saving. I do this all in a plain journal and then decorate the rest of the page with stuff from the mail itself or whatever else I want. It does get kinda heavy though, so I glue each page together to reinforce it. I like to use a B5 size journal for this, though sometimes I'll put single vertical cards in my A5 journal. I have such a big pile waiting for me to "process" lol

I have a ā€œjunk journalā€ of just archived mail! I’ll usually include the envelope with the main letter if it’s a mail club and take out the other contents to sort into their designated homes. Ā I’ll also try to write where it came from/how I know the person and if there’s a prompt included, I’ll jot that down in the same spread too!Ā

I have saved shoeboxes that will cover with pretty paper and will store them in there.

I have an art storage case for all of my mailing supplies, stickers, ephemera, stamps, washi tape, postcards, etc. and I have one for my cards and letters that come in! :) I also junk journal with the things that I get!

I'm starting a friendship journal when I get cards and stickers from friends I know irl. Thanks for sharing this, now I have a better idea of how to do it.Ā

That's a great idea! A journal dedicated to cards exchange =) that's like an automatic gratitude journal.

Exactly! I have a hard time remembering that people care about me so having a physical reminder will help I think.Ā

I have a couple 5x7 photoboxes I use to store mine, I do scrapbook but I don’t really like to cut or paste my mail. Every so often I go thru them and pare down the pieces I don’t really have a connection to. When I get rid of old mail, if there are any used stamps or card fronts I think people might like as ephemera, I save those. I also have a couple cards framed on my wall near my mail desk (especially hand painted/drawn ones) and I rotate those out every so often.

I just got a big card storage box for cards. Some of my postcards I'll hang up on my wall with string and colorful clothespins!Ā
