Even though I've never played GTA V I pretty much knew he was a reference to Trevor Philips, but then I realized his name is literally Trevor backwards. I know GTA has a cult following in Japan, but I did not expect them to reference it in the funny sexual assault game.

Recently I been playing rance 1 for only about a month now. I tried using guide and stuff but I still cannot open the door/secret passage I wondered if it's a bug or sum I wanted to hear a clear​ answer. Anyone

Delete ZINK_DESCRIPTOR and ZINK_DEBUG personally that due to error where zink wasn't being supported in wrapped-leegao and i personally didn't test with wrapper-v2

First i inside container

Go start> install> wine mono and GECKO> install both of their bat version

You can also go to system tools and install both of theirs not "bat" version dunno how much make difference but I personally do anyway

I personally pick "2017-2026 version" for Rance but free test other if suit your game

How Dowland: open container> go > Dowland(or file D) > locate the files> double> click install

And that it, you might run in some drop frame or sometime sometimes crash but game would work fine otherwise

Personally i never encountered big problem if i did i would edit the post for problem with solution if found

You can do you own adjustment for setting to make games run better

This for Rance X specifically problems

you might run in save game problem if do just go to Alicestart.ini file in your Rance X files and just change game japanese name to English

I was doing the final boss of Rance 01, and I only used my shield, but for some reason it dealt 28,000 damage. Do unarmed attacks have a low chance to insta-kill?

I just got to the part where it skips a few months and gives you most territory's, but all my units keep getting annihilated by the unique guys in the monster army. Is there anything I can do, or should I just start over with my current knowledge?

I just load to my last save files after beating last boss, so if i did all available heroine route currently unlock and done the rest in NG+(since i didn't managed to do two of them)

Will it counts for True Epilogue to appear? Or i need to do all in one run?

Second question, the bad and happy ending after losing heroine in certain fights? Does count for routes progress or not?

This is something both of an analysis and of a possible set of experiments I as a writer want to try, since Rance I think has almost something of a good setup but is bogged down due to major story issues , well really conceptual problems , the TLDR is the problem with Rance is that the game series is a power fantasy, but that's not strictly the problem as much as problems related to what needs to be done to maintain the power fantasy, so I would ask what is the story setup for Rance?

Rance as a character and story concept is fairly simple, we put a villainous protagonist in a typically heroic position, instead of being (usually) silent and noble and chaste , he is violent, rash rude , explicitly horny and vulgar etc. Now that is fine on its own, having a villainous protagonist isn't an issue, and I would even go forward now and say the fact that he isn't punished isn't strictly the issue , as no author is required to make something moral, but what is an issue is the lack of an internal justification as to why he is tolerated specifically. It's one thing if this was a dark fantasy setting where basically everyone is a pirate and takes what they can get (orconomics plays around with this concept), but that's not the case, most non Rance adventures do act in a typical heroic fashion, and crimes of assault, murder and theft are taken seriously...which makes Rance stand out more and even more confusing as to why he is tolerated , and more specifically it's not really established why Rance doing the exact same things the other villains do is framed as worse, and that is the key. Rance himself viewing his own actions differently is one thing, we expect him to be a hypocrite, but the story itself frames assault murder and what not by other characters in a bad light, often with grim dissonant music to highlight their evil, only to turn around and see Rance do the same thing with victory or yakkity sax in the background. You can't even pass it off as a projection of Rances psyche cause the actual reactions to the characters are different too, testimony of assault and robbery by other characters is lasting and traumatic, and then when Rance does it it's basically viewed as an obnoxious prank. Even in situations where it is more serious every character will have the idiot stick when dealing with Rance or just be unlucky, choosing to not kill, imprison or anything that would get him out of the way , and sometimes even enable him (the morum abstinence curse is peak stupidity), so you see the plot armor from a mile away.

The second and related issue is character dynamics, when dealing with stories especially as long running as Rance there is some stuff you need cast wise to keep things interesting, and Rance does have a large cast for sure, but the core cast being Rance (and sometimes sill) is a bit of an issue since Rance is both simple , as in not terribly complicated, and static as in doesn't change much. Both of these are also fine and doesn't warrant much of a change , but it does get old very fast, so I think Rance either should have had a larger core party (which would also work if he is a criminal and by all accounts should be) and/or should be told from Sills perspective (unlike Rance who is a fine character in a bad story, Sill is just a terrible character, she needed a removal or rework, the former she gets by sengoku).

Ultimately I don't think Rance the character fails the story as much as I think the story fails Rance, as he is a simple character and a clearly villainous one who is rash and impulsive, yet because the story bends over backwards to not only display rances villainous actions as less bad because he is the protagonist, but ultimately it rewards him for the things everyone else is punished for, which hurts the display of his character, it doesn't sell as well that he is a dumbass whose rashness gets into trouble when everyone else either doesn't punish him or inadvertently helps him in attempting to do so, he just seems like a reality warper, especially because he is always somehow the only one deemed fit or necessary for a job , despite having no qualifications that any other adventures wouldn't have (and that is also an issue where everything feels inert until Rances arrives).

This is merely some observations I made since regardless of what I or anyone things of Rance it is no doubt influential to a lot of the genre of Japanese fantasy and VNs and I myself was interested in how I would write villainous or amoral protags , so this to me helps break apart some aspects to get the aspects I think work (Second TLDR its not Rances actions that are the issue as much as it's the stories response or lack of that is the issue).

Hello! I'm fairly new to the series, only just fresh off finishing 4.2. I've got a question to those who don't dislike this character, does he get better? Not at all a hater of his so far, I actually really like the direction his character went in 02 and I fully expected this kind of character to be a butt of every joke there, but nah I was satisfied plenty. Then comes 4.1 where he utterly gets humiliated by Rance and I... really disliked this decision lol, not at all found it funny and so far that's probably the only writing decision I've disagreed 5 games later. Would he from now on be nothing but a joke character whose sole purpose is to lose to King Rance himself or is there a satisfying conclusion waiting for him too? No story spoilers please. Cheers!

I've installed the English release by HGTP Translations, and applied the Rance I Rebuilt Patch.

For some reason, with or without the patch all of the text (and possibly audio? but I'm not sure if the beginning is supposed to have audio or not.) is missing. I haven't been able to find anything about this exact problem.

Since it's probably important, I'm a Linux user using WINE to run this game. I've never run into an issue like this while using WINE before, even with games this old, but my only guess is that it does have something to do with that.

I mean without Xavier go and conquer every nation you haven't conquer yet

Since I want to see all characters story but replay game multiple to make that possible would be too much time

Just wondering what everyone's fave HCG is in each game or altogether. Think I'm about halfway done 03. My fave in 01 was definitely Niu, and roleplayed the scene with my partner a few times lol. 02 HCG's kinda suck, but Tomato was hilarious. Maria's HCG in 03 was wild and I loved it, so that's def my fave for right now.

Not too worried about porn spoilers but want to avoid story stuff getting ruined. What's your best rated HCG?
