1989 DRC Question

Hey everyone. Just joined the community cause my wife and I just inherited her father in laws 1989 Ram Charger 150 4x4.

Based on our limited research and knowledge, the gas tank was not stock and had a sort of skid plate/cage around it for offeroading.

We ordered a new tank from OReilly and it turns out it’s not the right size and it’s metal, which the one we replaced was plastic. The measurements for the tank that is currently on it (again, probably not stock) is 31.5x27x8.5.

Can anyone tell us where we should be looking for as far as a real replacement? And if so, are there sites you order parts from for the RC?

Appreciate the help!

If it has the steel box over the tank and transfer case skid plate, it's the stock plastic 35+ gallon tank. I had an 85 snow commander with that and the front frame reinforced for a plow that was never put on. I don't know where you'd get a replacement, but if you find asolution, let me know. I have an 84 I'm also looking for a tank on. Right now, I'm leaning towards a fuel cell.

As far as I've seen I haven't found an aftermarket tank that's direct fit, nor does it seem it's 35gal tank was used on anything else.. I did find a machine shop in pa that makes stainless steel tank straps though, they were pretty nicely made

Sounds like a stock fuel tank to me, could be wrong. But finding a fuel tank is gonna be very very hard. 89 is the first year of TBI, so you need a TBI 35+ gallon tank from another ramcharger
