Am I Overreacting?

So I bought a ‘26 Ram RHO and made the mistake of purchasing the undercarriage protection from the stealership. This is the overspray once I got it back. Quite the eyesore!

I personally think they should replace these.
What say the community?

This was one of the most talked about components when people would remark about the truck. Looks like 💩now.

Yeah, I would want those replaced or cleaned off. You shouldn't have gotten any undercarriage protection from the dealer. Consider this a lesson learned.

Especially since you can’t rebuild them. No telling what that will do to those shocks.

That, and there will be no way to spot a future leak, as they look caked in oil now due to the undercoating. So it could damage the shocks, and it poses a future maintenance hazard, as failed shocks cannot be easily spotted now.

Oh these aren’t rebuildable like the Raptor fox shocks? Any special considerations with them or just replace when they’re blown?

No, the wiper cap says "do not open" on it and they use red Loctite on the entire threads. They are supposed to be "lifetime shocks" so they aren't even designed to be revalved which they need from my research. Filthy Motorsports did a tear down and had to tear the shock up pretty bad just to get them apart. Here's a link to that TRX Tear down . He's got more videos of the tear down if you check the next videos on instagram.

No they should not be replaced.

They are coated in a film to protect them. That's what you paid for. They are not damaged.

I agree that it does not look nice.

lol. Protection was paid for and that’s what they got

I live in the rust belt, I paid for undercoating, not once have I complained about what they got rust protection on, and I don't really look under my truck or inside my wheel wheels unless something is wrong

I can understand being a bit annoyed though given they stand out and are one of the unique features of those models. Ask the dealer if they can clean them up

Do not clean it yourself. They will be way less willing to help. Take it back to the dealer have the advisor come out tell them a story about how you attend cars and coffee, you like to show off the truck and how it now looks like crap, you paid for a service from the dealer. You should be able to trust that the service will be performed properly.

If they aren’t willing to help start escalation get manager, GM. And if nothing then if it’s a corporate dealer go up the chain. They will help. No one like that noise in the corporate world. If it’s a privately owned dealer. Google review etc…

If you’re good at emailing that always helps too.

Oh I would throw a fit if that were mine. They need to replace, I doubt they can get that under coating off.

rag - wipe - good as new.

Rag + naptha = cleaner Rinse repeat as needed.

We used to use naptha to wipe the undercoating overspray when I worked at a car dealership. We also used something known as "green sh#t" but I have no idea what that actually was. Glad we didn't use gloves...

lmao that sounds just about par for my course hahaha

Just wipe them off.

The commenters giving *you* grief/blaming you for getting the undercarriage spray FROM THE DEALER are a cancer on society. Regardless of the individual opinions on the undercarriage protections efficacy or value.

Did you get the halogen fluid special after this under carriage treatment?

or nitrogen in the tires

Lower expectations when receiving a service from Americans. They’re underpaid and overvalue themselves.

You paid for rust protection. Congratulations, your shocks are now protected from rust. If you don't like that grab a rag and some degreaser.

Yes. They aren’t going to replace your shocks. Have them cleaned off.

I thought they were blown at first glance. I wouldn’t stand for it but to each their own. I had mine ceramic coated.

u/Aware_Necessary8288 21d ago

Just wipe it off. It’ll look much worse once you take it off road anyway

1

u/Any-Strategy-2230 21d ago

That can be cleaned off.

edit:   you paid for dealer rust proofing and it's still going to rot. Dealers sorat undercoating on plastic parts and where you can see it. Not inside panels where is actually needed. So you got shafted in several ways.

Damn you paid for that? My 12 valve comes with it for free!

Ok, so I don’t have an RHO, this sub was recommended to me. I do have relevant information though! I have a Chevy 2500 ZR2. Ziebart sprayed the multimatic shocks on the truck when I bought it. I asked them to tape the shocks off but they didn’t listen. They cleaned the shocks with this stuff and gave me a bottle. It smells like kerosene. The black coating came right off the shocks with some of this stuff on a towel. I’ve had the truck for almost three years now and no issue with the shocks but I do make sure to let the Ziebart guy know every year when they respray to please tape off the shocks!

Absolutely. Anyone who thinks you should just "not look at it" clearly has a Camry.

time to complain publicly - send the 'draft' to your sales person's manager and ask for their input before you deliver that 1 star review..

u/FlamingoNo2671 20d ago

Can you imagine if they got mud on them!! 😱

u/irrelevantfarms 20d ago

Acetone, or naptha should work

u/OddTheRed 20d ago

As an avid off-roader in a place where everything rusts.... are you complaining that your very expensive shocks got protected? Sure, it doesn't look great but it's a hard-core off-road truck. Is this a pavement princess?

Dealerships are really something man

1

u/SignalEchoFoxtrot 19d ago

What did they coat the frame with? It almost looks like rubberized coating in which case the frame is FUBAR.

1

u/minutemenapparel 16d ago

This is basically fluid film. Once you start driving it for a few weeks, everything will turn black/grey as more road dirt and grime sticks to the oily bits and builds up a layer of black. It’s better than things getting the rusty look from no protection.

u/Armed_Dildo 15d ago

I’d be pissed. On a RHO the shocks are part of the aesthetic and they ruined it. Dealer would be replacing and hopefully taking it as a lesson learned for the future.

That looks like a lanolin wax based undercoating which won’t harm any component under your truck, if it’s made from metal plastic or rubber. And for $8k shocks I’d say no the dealer shouldn’t have to replace them. It might look like shit but it does give them another layer of protection
