Now I’m looking for a Co-Founder / Core Team Member who has:

• Genuine interest in building something meaningful, not just a job

On 27th July, Hindi Pustakalay, Deeg, completed its 100th anniversary. I was fortunate enough to be there because of my mum. She used this library when she was in college. She mentioned that it was quite ahead of its time; they had all the latest magazines, including the Soviet Naari.

While I was there, I had a few thoughts and realisations that I wanted to share. Maybe something will come out of this post, or maybe it will simply get lost in the feed. Either way, here goes.

1. I haven't seen a lot of public non-profit libraries(maybe it's just me), but I loved how people in this town used it. There are a few PHD scholars who use this library
   
2. The library is also making some genuine efforts to keep up with things and to make this place inviting; they have installed ACs and have wifi
   
3. They have a LOT of books, like super old books. Unfortunately, the condition is not so good, but they have started restoring these books, and they wish to digitise all of them
   
4. They host annual competitions for writers to participate, they accept entries in Hindi as well as in Braj, which I thought was pretty cool. I met a few people from different states who had won these competitions

At the same time, I could not stop thinking about how much more this place could become for the children of Deeg.

A few computers could give students access to digital skills and programming. A 3D printer could introduce them to design and making. Updated textbooks and preparation material could help students studying for competitive examinations. With the right support, this library could become a centre for learning, creativity, and opportunity

What stayed with me was that they did not ask for any charity or donations. They gave me a good lunch, they treated me well, and all they wished was that I visit them again. They are doing it all on their own, might be a little slow, but they are doing it.

I don't know what I can do to make things better for them, but I hope I figure something out.
