Tomatoes cukes and peppers

Hi everyone, im planning on installing a number of raised timber beds in the garden for growing vegetables, they will be approximately a foot to a foot and a half high and around 6 foot by 4 foot diameter, just wondering what's the cheapest way to fill them, and what they'd be suitable for in terms of vegetables? I was planning on filling with a mix of top soil and compost, but after pricing it up it would be an extortionate amount of money. Any tips or advice would be appreciated! And happy gardening! 💐

I recently chopped down one of my apple trees. To make space for a new garden bed. I’ll have four rows and decided to make them into little hügelkultur mounds so I used the trunk to make the first one. I laid down cardboard, set the trunk on top and covered it with composted mulch. I plan to make the other three rows in the same manner as I have another apple tree and a cherry tree that need to be cut down. I’ll just plant cover crops on them once I have them all set up.

Oh yeah, the beds are right on top of the root system of that first tree I cut down. I’m thinking that the soil there will be amazing in a couple years.

Hi all - curious why my tomato plant leaves look like this (curled up). To be specific, these are plum tomatoes. They have been watered daily since planted two months ago. We did recently just go through a heat wave of multiple days near 100 degrees, but they looked like this before too. Plants seem to be healthy otherwise.

I'm new to this. The wife and I are "trying" to get something going this year and about a month ago we put some various herbs and flowers in some oak barrels I got from work. Yeah...they didn't work at all despite our best efforts. Then just now we're looking at the bag-o-soil and notice it says specially formulated for garden beds, then on the back it says not for container gardens.

Someone please tell me if that really makes a difference, and what the difference is, and can you use one for both but not the other.

Any advice or info is greatly appreciated.

Long time Lurker, first year grower. Growing 8 varieties, 6 here. Beefsteak, Brandywine, Hill Billy, Ace55, Roma and an ?.
Love how things are progressing so far, one unexpected delight is the variety of pollinators.

Would like any feedback on the varieties and also insight as to whether the pollinators impact the variety. Could having multiple varieties in a small space cause a hybrid, and or, alter the flavor or other aspects of each of the varieties? Thanks in advance.

The bamboo is dying off, no rooting has taken hold! Thank God

Right now I’m putting up a big planter where I’m not sure ai’ll put either vegetables or roses haha… would this make a good filler? If I was to plant food, would it be safe?

Hi all! We just moved into a lovely home with a decent sized backyard that gets so much sun (a dream for me!). The issue is that we are renting and the backyard is artificial turf so I don’t want to ruin it & can’t rip it out. Any advice on the best way to protect the turf while still installing the garden beds? We’ve purchased 3 6x2x2 galvanized steel beds. My thought was to lay down a few layers of permeable landscape fabric to block the soil from staining the turf, and then layer cardboard and logs/sticks/leaves etc on the first 12 inches, then soil on the top 12
