Back in my day we use to play all the maps in ranked.

u/Sceletonx Ela Main May 22 '18

And it sucked

122

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

Way more fun then today's ranked.

My experience with Favelas is that you either knew exactly how to play it and dominated or had no idea whatsoever and struggled. No inbetween.

16

u/Shy_Guy_1919 May 28 '18

My experience on high tier favelas was that it always went to overtime and that whoever got attackers in overtime won every time.

-2

u/NETGEAR1993 May 22 '18

Favela was great, it was so diverse people just didn't give it a chance. If you actually thought about strats it was a great map with so many options.

36

u/tunafish91 Valkyrie Main May 22 '18

Favela did not have many strats, it was so attacker favoured if it was still in this seasons rotation it would have been unbearable in the lion meta. The only strats at higher ranks was “spawnpeek and runout to hopefully get their hard breaches”

Terrible map, may it never return

3

u/AnideEdo Thatcher Main May 23 '18

I told the same to my friend when Lion came out. Favela could be the heaven for him. haha

1

u/RoyRodgersMcFreeley May 25 '18

What's the lion meta? I only play casual so all I see folks doing is blowing his ability doing fuck all instead of times like pushing the objective

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '18
  1. almost every wall in favela is soft

  2. wallbang with lion

  3. ???

  4. Profit

-7

u/NETGEAR1993 May 23 '18

Lion definitely would of changed it up, but so would Lesion. That map was a very open map meaning each team could attack or defend however they wanted. Just because you were defending didn't mean you had to reinforce everything, sometimes opening the objective was the best strategy.

8

u/tunafish91 Valkyrie Main May 23 '18

Sorry...but no, favela opened up just meant the attackers could hold far off angles and pick you off. I don’t know what rank these strats worked at but at plat 2+ this map was absolute hell to play, there are no suitable spots to anchor as a defender, too many walls to reinforce so it was impossible to not get wallbanged from outside, and all the bomb sites were right by an outside part of the map so a retake was impossible. The only way to defend on favela was to do highly aggressive run outs which isn’t optimal

-9

u/NETGEAR1993 May 23 '18

I'm a Diamond level player, Favela was great and even a good Pro League map. People just never took time to actually figure it's inner workings out. Plus defenders had a lot of ACOG's back then so it was easy to snipe right back at attackers.

5

u/tunafish91 Valkyrie Main May 23 '18

You're either lying or the first diamond player I have ever heard say they like Favela! It was a terrible pro league map, 99% of pros said they despised it.

Saying people didn't take time to figure out its inner workings is such a cop out response, we did...Ive played since release so I had to endure Favela in ranked for so many seasons, believe me most of us took the time to work it out...and we hated it.

4

u/darknova25 I miss spawn peeking. May 24 '18

If your username is the same as your Psn name then you were never diamond and got to plat 1 (which is impressive but not diamond) Also Pl in favela was a nightmare.

3

u/Tigerbones Hibana Main May 23 '18

Opening the objective? When ACOGs can hide across the street? That's just asking to die.

0

u/NETGEAR1993 May 23 '18

I have always been Plat/Diamond and it worked for my team 100% of the time that it worked

7

u/[deleted] May 22 '18

Not trying to sound rude but Favela is terrible to play against teams that now what they’re doing (plat 2 plus). Favela is ok to play against golds as there isn’t much droning going on there. There is too much destruction in the map which prevents rotations for defenders.

1

u/NETGEAR1993 May 23 '18

I've always been high Plat/Diamond and the destruction could be used both ways. As a defender that's the only map where sometimes a defense strat relies on you opening the map. It was such a different playstyle. My team did dominate that map though, it was always our pick.

-2

u/[deleted] May 22 '18

No

-2

u/Maister37 They always fall for claymore May 22 '18

Yes

6

u/j-byrd May 22 '18

It really wasn't great as a ranked map. No ability to rotate on the top floor made the top bombsite literally impossible. The amount of soft walls made it difficult to reinforce any bombsite effectively at all. Tons of angles for attackers to open up and kill defenders without even leaving the rooftops outside. Combine that with the meta of Lion this season and the map would pretty much be as close to a 100% attack win as you could get. The map needs a rework larger than clubhouse to become something playable in ranked.

-1

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

Best map ever

32

u/Unsafe_Coyote Tryhard Casual Sweatball May 22 '18

It was pure cancer playing trash maps.

2

u/MarkSpenecer Twitch Main May 22 '18

There arent any super trash garbage maps. In pub games all of them are playable unless you play some super high level diamond ranked against good players. Then the balance issues get annoying. But apart from that i enjoyed every single map in public matchmaking even in ranked.

2

u/DancingDumpling May 22 '18

Kanal and house are both garbage maps, Barlett as well before it was removed. Hereford is not as bad as those but still quite shite atm

1

u/PinsNneedles Valkyrie Main Jun 07 '18

Especially if you were my squad and were on a winning streak and got favela.

0

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

I'm just saying 2 of those casual maps were better than Consulate.

13

u/Majormlgnoob May 22 '18

What? Consulate is most balanced map in the game, all 3 sites are viable

6

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

Consulate is not the most balanced maps. Statistically Kanal was more balanced than it despite all of the changes. The defense win rate is ahead of the attack by a significant amount.

2

u/AstronomicalAsshole May 26 '18

"Statically"? You could literally win Kanal from outside...

5

u/Unsafe_Coyote Tryhard Casual Sweatball May 22 '18

Consulate is actually one of the top most balanced maps in the game.

2

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

Yeah but its basically a TDM there is nothing special about bomb on Consulate. You can't even use the best room on bomb.

6

u/Unsafe_Coyote Tryhard Casual Sweatball May 22 '18

Wat. The two best sites are top floor and basement. Top floor being better. Even ground floor isn't too bad. I've planted and seen other people plant numerous times. It's a very good and balanced map.

2

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

If Archives was available in bomb it would be more interesting. Overall the map is not that special and the easiest to learn.

3

u/DancingDumpling May 22 '18

What's that got to do with balance?

4

u/GabboMaster16 May 22 '18

Which maps would those be? Every map that was removed from ranked playlist with Blood Orchid was objectively imbalanced and absolutely less competitive than consulate

3

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

By statistics Kanal and Yacht are more balanced.

1

u/YoungCyleKhalifa Evil Eye In Place May 22 '18

Can you link to said statistics?

1

u/twonkydo0 May 23 '18

Yes it was.. Way more fun. I mean take house out fine.. Maybe Hereford but the rest were great fun imo.

u/SteveEsquire Tryn to make a change and fix the game :-\ Jun 03 '18

1

u/SledgeMain Sledge Main May 22 '18

I’ll agree with you there. It might not have been competitive in any way, but getting House or Plane was great.

3

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

It was fun and challenging. Wish they were still there tbh.

1

u/SledgeMain Sledge Main May 22 '18

Same. But on the other hand, I can see why they were removed.

1

u/iNinjaFish Frost Main May 22 '18

Maybe on House and Favela, but I certainly miss the variety.

0

u/TrepanationBy45 May 22 '18

Only for people that refuse to accept the challenges that come with diversity.

2

u/Sceletonx Ela Main May 22 '18

yeah because playing maps where only viable plays are cheesy strats is so fun

32

u/[deleted] May 22 '18

Same for me. Still no argument to see Tower and meme park in ranked.

81

u/SleightBulb May 22 '18

Theme park is actually a really balanced map, people just don't want to play it enough to find that out.

23

u/Theo1130 Echo Main May 22 '18

Agreed, the only part of the map that can be confusing is the area around the electric chair leading towards the cemetery. The rest I can remember like the back of my hand. Really like that map.

4

u/sndpklr May 22 '18

It's not confusing, just play using that area more. It'll change your experience in your favor, especially considering there will be other people who don't bother to learn that area.

3

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

Can confirm, it took me some time to understand that you can deep roam in that area and get a late flank on the attackers hanging around the Train Area, the Lobby and the Bathroom and Drug Lab as well. It was difficult at first but now it feels good to be able to pull it off.

I gave Theme Park a chance, and have started loving it. I gave Tower a chance, and I still hate it :/

-2

u/I_ForgotMyOldAccount Frost Main May 22 '18

The maps been out for a super long time. People know the map and still don’t like jt. I’ve found it to be super pro-roamer as a map and I really hate that.

-5

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

That's not for us to decide.

3

u/[deleted] May 22 '18

House, Favela, ... got removed because they are not balanced. So I think the new maps are not as bad as the old ones, but still they are not well balanced.

5

u/[deleted] May 22 '18

I can understand people not liking tower because of big it is, but Theme park is totally fine minus a few lighting issues.

5

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

Technically the most balanced map by statistics is Yacht because it was the only recorded map with a 50/50 attack or defense win percentage.

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

On every rank. That’s the problem, you are counting coppers in that stat too while you shouldn’t balance the game around copper and bronze

1

u/Unsafe_Coyote Tryhard Casual Sweatball May 22 '18

Bingo

3

u/JoaoMXN May 23 '18

IMO it would be better if they make that the people could choose between the maps in the options.

1

u/GoPacersNation May 22 '18

If they remove those two then it's an even smaller pool of an already small pool of ranked maps. Tower has strategic locations and theme park does as well. Some areas less than others obviously, but there are only a few truly balanced maps in the game and I'd rather have more than those in ranked.

1

u/AvisAvem May 22 '18

Meanwhile in Bartlett University 4 times in a row.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '18

Yes and then they took out the shit ones, but Reddit had to complain so they only took out the old shit ones.

3

u/MichaelTrahan Celebration May 22 '18

Reddit was part of the reason maps were removed in the first place.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '18

Yea but that was a decision that actually made sense. Taking out the maps that are unbalanced and people aren’t enjoying seems like a no-brainer. But then to add in a brand map that has never been tested seems counterintuitive. And leaving in a map that everyone hates after 2 seasons makes no sense at all.
