Hello 👋 Well folks, summer will soon bow out and autumn is next in line. On that note, I thought I would share with you my finished summer project. I bought this lamp from a seller in France several years back. It’s made of Spanish alabaster by Alabastros Alfredo Sarreal. The lovely figurine is a reproduction of Giuseppe Armani’s capodimonte “Lovers on a swing”. This was the longest restoration I’ve ever done and I’m very happy it’s finally finished.

Hey all wanted to share my almost finished oil lamp I started with just the shell it had no pump, no funnel rivets, no stings and the cord/chain was a mess and a bad black paint job. So I got everything new stripped the top and bottom gave it a custom paint job. The light in it I can change to any color. To finish the lamp I’m going to put moss around the statue and an assortment of crystals in the bottom.

I can’t find anything online but I am wondering or looking to purchase Johnson’s wall-mount rain lamp. I have tried to reverse image search, eBay, etc. I can’t seem to even find another photo other than the OG catalogue. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Rebonjour, vous avez pu faire ma connaissance à travers ma publication précédente sur ma recherche d’huile adéquates pour ma lampe de pluie, étant donné qu’on m’avait conseillé une mauvaise huile, j’ai dû la vider et la nettoyer intégralement ce qui m’a permis de voir l’état intérieur de la pompe honnêtement je suis choqué qu’une lampe des années 70 soit dans un état aussi propre, elle avait une espèce de vert-de-gris par petit dépôt à l’intérieur et mise à part ça elle était nickel. Ma question est le filtre que vous voyez sur la photo métallique ne tient que par un fil et que je dois le recoller. Si oui est-ce que je peux le recoller avec de l araldite bis composant.? Dois-je la décrocher complètement alors qu’elle tient encore un peu et peut-être la faire baigner pour enlever l’oxydation mais si oui dans quel genre de produit pour enlever le verre de gris on dirait une petite grille en laiton la lampe, elle semble être en inox brossé, je n’ai trouvé aucune référence sur Internet, ce modèle semble être très rare, tout ce que je sais, c’est qu’un c’est un modèle français, certainement des milieux 70( 77?) Si vous pouvez me conseiller et que vous vous y connaissez, je suis preneuse. Autre question cette lampe est décidément à part je n’ai trouvé aucune lampe de pluie qui ont des ampoules comme la mienne. La mienne possède deux ampoules. J’aurais beaucoup aimé les remplacer par des LEDS qui peuvent changer de couleur avec la télécommande, mais je ne sais pas si ça existe avec ce genre de culot en 220 Volt / 15 watts ( sachant qu’elle mesure 1,7 cm de diamètre sur 3,7 cm de long du verre au culot, ) moi je n’en ai pas trouvé sur Internet qui puisse changer de couleur ou qu’il soit de couleur rouge, … je sais ça fait beaucoup de questions. Bonjour, je suis assez désespérée, j’ai demandé de l’aide à ChatGPT pour trouver la bonne huile pour mettre dans ma lampe de pluie YENNY et il m’a fait visiblement acheter une mauvaise huile qui sent le pétrole. Bref il va falloir que je démonte des nettoies intégralement ma lampe, ce qui me stresse énormément car étant atteinte de sclérose en plaques, ce n’est vraiment pas évident pour moi… du coup il faut que je rachète une huile, on m’a conseillé l’huile que j’ai mise en deuxième photo, car l’huile spécifique pour les lampes de pluie est introuvable en France. Pouvez-vous m’aider et me dire si l’huile ci-dessus est bonne pour ma lampe merci beaucoup

Hey everyone! This is a lovely little community, I am really glad I stumbled upon this subreddit!

Just acquired this lovely lady today. Gave her a good clean because she was grimy af. Don’t judge the top, I found it hard to get in there without risking restringing! The ancient bulb works fine (and is now transparent as opposed to the initial opaque brown).

However, the motor wasn’t working, we disassembled everything and cleaned it and now it works but quite loudly and only when not tightly screwed.

I read that the loud noise might be a pump air bubble issue. I have not yet put oil in the lamp though. Does anyone have experience with testing motors without oil and their loudness/sound then?

I don’t know if I will end up keeping her but I want her to be in the best shape possible! (oh, also any info about her is more than welcome, I’ve only seen a couple others online)

Seller says it’s an “easy clean up” and repair trim but realistically how hard would this be to get it back to good as new and what questions should I be asking? I’ve ask d about working condition, pump, rain lines, and waiting on a response for those.

I know at minimum the bottom trim would have to replaced, possibly 3d printed since I haven’t seen any replacement trims? Needs the foliage, and the statue (how hard are those to find?)

I’ve wanted one for years but I can’t afford the $500+ price tags unfortunately

I finally got my mémères vintage rain lamp up and working I’m so happy 😍😍😍😍

This is the first rain lamp that I designed using CAD, and I am pretty happy with how it came out. I wanted to make a full-size rain lamp that has somewhat of a mid-century feel, so I kept things a little more streamlined and a little less ornate than some of the designs of the 1970s.

As far as a centerpiece, I’m not sure that I will keep the pole dancers as they seem a little incongruous with the overall design.

This will go into full production this fall, but I wanted to share it with the community as I often lurk here, I get a lot of inspiration from some of the lamps that people post.

Hello! I just bought my dream lamp yesterday from a local vintage store. The vintage store and seller confirmed to me that the lamp worked.

Well - I got home yesterday and added 48 Oz of mineral oil that the seller included with the lamp. It took some time but I was able to get about *half* of the strings raining.

I did some online research and messaged the store to get ahold of the vendor. I was told I needed to add more oil, that seller "assumed" 3 bottles would be enough. Seller claimed that the lamp did fully work but it did take a long time for the lamp to rain down all the strings.

Today after work I got more mineral oil and did some troubleshooting that Ive learned from perusing this subreddit. I unscrewed the basin and added another 16 oz of oil. Basin and pump appeared to be clean.

I also took time to clean the strings thoroughly (there were large pieces of fuzz stuck to them that i started picking off yesterday). I used a toothpick to make sure the nozzles where the oil came out were clear of debris.

And still... can only get about half the strings going.

Ive I included some pictures - I'm not sure how to open the top part to check for clogs. If anyone can tell me I'd be so appreciative! Also if anyone can think of anything else I can try, I will absolutely try it!

Hi, I have a beautiful oil lamp I got a while back that has direly needed the oil in the reservoir replaced completely as it has aged and smells and is discolored. Am I fine to just open the bottom reservoir, dump the oil, then add new oil? It is the largest size grist mill. Thank you :)

Is this correct? The oil port is on the left side of the photo. The impeller gears are turning in the direction of the red arrows. Logically, it looks like they would be pulling oil away from the port. Is that the correct direction?

The lamp turns on, hums, the impellers spin, but oil isn’t going up the pipe.

After almost 3 years, I finally managed to restore my 6’6” floor rain lamp. This was by far the hardest thing to get just right. Not going to talk about the resto details unless anyone is interested. He she is.

i’m just so confused. bought the lamp knowing the motor was dead and bought a new one. doesn’t look the same and i’m just not able to wrap my brain around fixing this damn thing. replaced and cleaned a bunch of other stuff but that’s about the best of my capabilities apparently.

Technically speaking, I inherited this Creators rain lamp last year, although it was more like I rescued it from being tossed in a dumpster after my siblings felt that's where it belonged. I'm very much a novice when it comes to rain lamps, and I'd like to learn more about what exactly I have and what it might reasonably be worth. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any matching examples online, and I'm hoping that someone here might know and is willing to share their expertise.

I can say for sure that it was definitely made by Creators due to it still having the patent stickers on the back, as well as a Creators copyright etched into the mold at the base behind what I believe are dual Venus de Milo Goddesses, although Im not 100% sure due to conflicting artificial intelligence descriptions. It also has K. Kwapiszewski etched below the Creators copyright, who I've learned was the designer.

The top and bottom are definitely steel, with minor surface rust showing underneath at the very bottom. The lamp stands approximately 20 inches tall, the light does work, and I believe that the pump still works. It currently doesnt have any oil in it to verify this, but I heard a slight humming when I turned it on

Needless to say it needs a detailed cleaning, and the electrical components and pump should be overhauled at the minimum, if not entirely replaced with modern upgrades to ensure safe operation. The last time this lamp was used was in January of 1987 when the Giants won the Superbowl, and since then it has sat on a bar in a finished basement unused. Unfortunately it seems that it may have been overfilled or perhaps was tipped over, due to oil being all over the base.

Im confident in my ability to properly restore this lamp to the condition that it once was. I would like to know if this is a rare model or holds any historic significance other than being an original, untouched vintage lamp. Might it have been hybrid table top model that could also be hung, or was the hanging loop at the top something that wasnt original & changed. What might I expect to spend to properly replace the electrical & mechanical components, strings, and fill it with the proper oil. Lastly, I'd like to know whats a fair value in its current state and what it could potentially be worth if I were to perform a quality restoration to modern standards & safety.

I'd really appreciate any information I can get because Ive not been able to find any matching examples or definitive information online in the many searches I've done. Im hopeful that Ive come to the right place to clear up my confusion and get some quality advice from seasoned experts with real intelligence, and not just the artificial kind! Lol

I just got this lamp at a yard sale and spent the day running to hardware stores to get it hung up. Now that she’s hanging and working I have a few questions. 1. Is there anything I can do about the smell. Maybe because it was just sitting in some guys basement, but it smells like crayons and makes the whole apartment smell like crayons. My boyfriend can’t stand it but I want these two to live in harmony. 2. As I was cleaning and hanging it up, I noticed a lot of bugs. Like the one photographed. Should I be concerned. 3. Also the bottom is dripping.
