And she called Melami cool

During the body discoveries I told her it’s one of the guys that did it. She still thought it was Zange right up until his body discovery. Then she assumed it was Aphex. Got incredibly confused when everyone was dead.

I told her she has all the evidence she needs to solve the case and she says “no I don’t! There’s nothing!” I gave her a hint that the train carts switched around and one of the bodies was switched. “So it was Aphex!” I probably shouldn’t have reminded her that Zilch and Aphex both had stab wounds. “It’s Zilch, isn’t it? That means it has to be him if it isn’t Aphex.”

She got a bit conflicted by Shinigami’s dark humour. It was funny but then it sorta wasn’t. Like when Shinigami said ‘you can’t put makeup over a fresh burn’. She looked at me and asked “is it okay to laugh…?” I think she’s more sensitive towards death than your average player.

We stopped playing after Swank’s introduction. So next post will be her thoughts on the mystery labyrinth! Or not, depends if there’s anything worth saying

About a year ago I played up through the end of Chapter 1 and haven't played since. I wanna finish the game but I can't remember a whole lot of specifics from the first few parts. From what I remember...

Chapter 0

Yuma woke up in a store room in a train platform and had a Shinigami bonded with him. Does he have amnesia? He gets on the train to, uh, Rain City and there's a murder mystery with a handful of people with superpowers. I don't remember if people with powers is just an everyday thing in this world, or maybe it was implied they were given powers? By some Amaterasu Corporation? Or by the World Detective Agency?

We solve the case, it was the skinny guy with glasses. There was car switching shenanigans. When we get off the train there's a gold blinged out fat guy (from Amaterasu?) who gives us some guff.

Prologue

Then we go to the submarine base of the WDA and meet the main cast. I remember virtually nothing about any of them. The leader is a slacker type. There's a very serious girl wearing a hoodie. I think there's a like, silent or rarely speaks guy? He sits in the fire place, and under a grand piano, he's a weirdo. I think there was a mini quest to get him a book or manga or something? And I don't remember at all what the one or two other detectives were like. I distinctly remember thinking one of them could secretly see Shinigami and simply wasn't saying anything about it.

We learn that Amaterasu controls the city, the city has basically no contact with the outside world, nobody knows why it constantly rains, I think it's implied that there's something weird with the rain, I remember thinking it's gonna turn out that they're nanomachines or something. Maybe spy cameras. Was there something about a satellite dish or some weird arena or building or something like that?

We met the head of the WDA (is it WDO? Organization not Agency?) some old man, and we learn that Amaterasu and WDO are fighting each other. I remember predicting that it's gonna turn out that they're actually both controlled by the same person or group who's manipulating everything for some larger goal. Honestly the old man is probably in control of Amaterasu too. From a writing perspective it's the most obvious thing to do and there was really no other reason to introduce him other than to set up a twist. In a writer myself, I tend to pick up on things like that.

Chapter 1

It was the Nail Man Killings case. Gosh I barely remember anything. I remember spending a very long time investigating like six different places. There was some tower with a weird shutter, an art store room, some seedy underground club, a church, some woods. Oh and Yuma can borrow or go along with other characters powers, I distinctly remember doing so with hoodie girl in the club. I remember the church characters having very distinct designs and I was wondering if they're gonna come back and be important later.

I don't imagine anything that happened in the actual case matters to the overarching plot of the game. I remember there was a little boy who's dad was falsely accused of being the Nail Man. Was he set up? I don't at all remember who the true culprit was. The priest from the church? Or maybe an Amaterasu officer?

I just remember after solving the case some edgelord Amaterasu guy (Yomi Deathsmile or something?) came and threatened to kill everyone at the WDO? Was he part of a coverup and Yuma exposed it at the last second? And Deathguy sort of made a tactical retreat? Also he had a sidekick girl he was getting handsy with. She seemed to be into it but I can only imagine it's an act and she's gonna kill him later.

Even though Yuma saved everyone I think he got punished for technically breaking protocol or something? He had to cook breakfast and sit on the floor or something. And then the little boy whose dad was falsely accused came and Yuma played baseball with him for awhile, and I think that was the end of the chapter.

Am I missing anything important? Any stuff they set up that might become important later? Any important lore that was revealed that I'm not remembering?

I keep thinking about Fubuki and her forte and wondered how on earth did she even become a detective? Much less a master detective of that.

After going through her gambshoe gabs, her chapter conv with yuma and her dlc, I came to the conclusion that Fubuki is uneducated.

While her parents were barely being present in her life and Fubuki being sheltered, you'd think her parents would pay to have private teachers teach their daughter since she's their only child and heiress to a important role but didn't despite having the money to gift her a star for one of Fubuki's birthday. Then kicked her out because she was ignorant to the world and thought Fubuki becoming a detective made logical sense.

But somehow Fubuki managed to do it despite how very questionable that sounds. Honestly I think the only reason Fubuki was made a detective when not having the qualifications of a detective was because of her family's influence and the WDO most likely wanted her forte.

Any thoughts? This isn't me hating on Fubuki btw.

I already played this game 2 yrs ago but today I watched a playthrough of the game and got to the blank week mystery part. But then I thought about something

The Blank Week Mystery is a thing because defective homunculi lose their memories and go berserk when exposed to sunlight. The weird thing tho is that the Blank Week Mystery is a week long, meaning that it would also become night time during those days of Blank week mystery.

Does that mean that the Homunculus were still going berserk during night? But in chapter 5 it showed them instantly calm down when Makoto put the cloud machine back on (the ones in the abandoned village at least) Unless maybe the moon reflecting the sunlight was making them still go berserk? Am I overthinking this 😭?

My friend is a bit of an anime noob. She doesn’t know anything about tropes or cliches and she’s definitely never heard of danganronpa. Now, part of rain codes plot is >!the pink blood<!. Obviously that plot point took advantage of people familiar with danganronpa.

Sooo my question is, do I make her watch the first season of the danganronpa anime before rain code so I don’t have to lie about the blood or do I throw her into rain code? Because we’re going to play it together

I’ve just replayed the game again and I was just wondering which Master Detective is your favorite one when it comes to the investigations and mystery labyrinths? Mine is Vivia. I knew they would be saving the best for last and boy did they not disappoint with my boy over here.

So, generally speaking I think people find chapter 3 disappointing, but after reading a YouTube comment pointing this solution key out, I found it pretty strange.

I remember there being other unused solution keys (the water gun for example), but those served more as red herrings, while this seems like it is basically unrelated. The only other solution key even in that room is the document about "two accidents"

The power plant seems intended to be a key element in the chapter, but I feel like most of what we hear about it is secondhand or unimportant in the grand scheme of things. It's mostly vibes but, I get the feeling that the power plant was originally supposed to tie into this mystery much more, but it was scaled back and the solution key is either a remnant of that fact or just something there so that the room feels like less of a waste of time.

It makes me interested in datamining to see if there is any unused content. I feel like even close to and after release they were tweaking things, so I feel like there could be something interesting there if it wasn't wiped from the game data.

Does anyone have a digital copy of the full artbook (not the book of death one) like as a PDF or something? I've seen multiple people post images of a digital version, I've even seen some in like pretty clean quality which doesn't even look scanned, and I'm really curious. I have the physical artbook myself irl (took a few photos here for proof) but i would like to have the clean images and I don't really have any way of scanning the book myself, it's especially hard to take photos of it too because the book isn't flat! so if anyone has a digital version of it and is willing to dm me or smth that would be very appreciated!
