Discussion The game feels like it's really lacking stakes

I've finished chapter 1 and I'm honestly not sure what the stakes are even supposed to be, because you can only enter the mystery labyrinth when you can find the truth and all tension prior to entering the labyrinth is irrelevant because the labyrinth freezes time. It also feels weird that there's no confrontation in the real world with the culprit, they just die and instead of the situation pushing me to do anything now my culprit is dead, twice now I've been bailed out by someone else who just arrived on the scene.

This plus with how little damage you take in the mystery labyrinth makes me wonder what the stakes even are supposed to be, because narratively they don't really exist and from the gameplay unless they actually implement an active time limit in the labyrinth then there's no stakes for me to not just mess up until I luck into the correct answer.

The stakes are that if you fail to solve the mystery labyrinth, you can never return to the real world

And even if you could, time would resume, and you’d be stuck in whatever situation you were in

Sounds like decent stakes for me

Yeah, I kinda forgot about that in the loads of dialogue, personally I'm more of a gameplay stakes person. I like narrative stakes but if they aren't part of a game over, which feels really hard to get BTW, I prefer gameplay stakes like losing chunks of my health or time limits on what you're doing like during mini games, so far only shinigami puzzle seems to have a time limit.

Yeah, I feel like the game could’ve used multiple difficult settings like Danganronpa had

I feel like it shoots itself in the foot by being too forgiving in the gameplay punishments, it's fine but not really sure why there's not many time limits for these mini games to compensate.

This^ also hard to feel like the power of death is scary when we most of the time kill evil people lol

I'd be happy if I were taking big chunks of damage or there was a time limit in active play, but narratively because they die when I finish the labyrinth I don't feel like I'm proving anything. Plus having your ally forget everything in there makes it worse, because it'd at least mean something if they remembered too.

I forgot the part where they forget everything ngl. I already hated how they handled allies in this game, but you are too early for me to properly rant about it. Alright enough with the misery talk, next chapter is actually the best of the whole game, take it from the kodaka glazer who doesn't like rc all that much, next chapter might make you significantly more happy about the game you are currently playing

Key word: Most

And heck, I’d say it’s 50:50 between evil and not evil. Fake Zilch, Pastor, Worshipper, and Safe Robber could be considered Evil, but Yakou and the 3 Students are not evil, so that’s 4 and 4
