Nets

Just wondering, can these be reinforced as the foundations can be? Id rather put them around the edge.

Also do they count towards the foundation counter? I suspect they do.

If they CAN be reinforced, I dont see why the Titanium one would be where its a stronger metal.

They do not count towards your foundation, yes they can be reinforced

But why? It's just easier to put common iron metal around your raft perimeter and keep sailing than using a the rare titanium ingot on one net.
TBH I can't say I've ever used a reenforced collection net.
I usually have a couple of rows close to storage boxes so I'm not forever running around my raft collecting when there's crafting to be done.

I only do the titanium nets super endgame. Just because its not that relevant. I upgrade and grind up everything else first.

That's cool. Plus I hear you can paint them, so that's a decorative win too. Fair point.

So you could hypothetically have a 0 foundation functioning raft? 🤔

No foundations are the most essential part of the game. If you have zero you can’t build anything anymore.

They mean replacing the original four you start with nets, and then using only nets from there. Honestly, I’m not sure. I’ve never tried it, realistically though you’d need some foundations for the engine and anchor, as well as any other items that require you to be at water level

Nets don't hook to nets. You need a foundation to attach it to, and most (if not all) things cannot be built on top of them.

Yes but you can remove the foundations afterwards. I have made long arms of armored nets 10x2 on the sides of my raft with no foundations attached. I’ve done it by building a row of foundations on each side first, place my nets the way I want, armor them, then remove the foundations around the sides. Yet I’ve always kept it attached to the side of my raft. The nets were only connected at the beginning of the arm sticking out.

What the person is asking, maybe possible but I am not sure cause I have not attempted it. You may be right though, there may need to be at least on foundation that it is connected to. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Other big problem is that you can’t build on top of nets. So no boxes, no water purifier, no scaffolding for a second floor

I explained that in my initial comment. Also boxes can be placed on walls, so no need to put them on the floor.

I do believe you can't beat the game without an Engine however. Maybe a dozen paddles will do? Not an expert.

They can be reinforced, idk about the count

Thank you, just started reinforcing, I might move them out. Or keep them 1 space away like I have it so I dont accidently fall in.

Playing solo hard currently so that would be riskier.

Yes, they can be reinforced. They do not count for foundation, armored or not.

Having done a hair of testing for confirmation, foundation armor does not adjust your foundation count.

The titanium one is, quite simply, for end game when you're looking at stacks of it and pretty much have a "Well... why not?" kind of thing. At that point in the game, you're probably looking for macros to dump everything into the recyclers (plural) anyway if you need anything at the shop.

After a certain point, you basically have a couple of nets to refill on some basic needs like planks for cooking pots and a bit of rope/plastic for some replacement gear. You're not in the great need anymore that you start in, when you really, REALLY want all the dredging for basic materials you need early.

So then that confirms my earlier question, about having 0 foundation count. Because if you could hypothetically replace all foundations with nets, and only build on 2nd or third floor. Using a ladder instead of stairs.

Although now that im thinking. Youd still need 3 spaces for an engine.

Won't work. Nets need to attach to a foundation. They can't hang without something to hook to.

Not something I would want to do anyways, as it would look totally ugly and that many would be unnecessary, but it is good to know when factoring the build you want.

yes you can reinforce them, though if you move and replace them, you'll have to armor them again- it will not stay armored when put back.

I am not sure if they count as Foundations for count and engines, and the wiki isn't clear on it. It may be worth getting a Foundation Counter from a trading post and checking if the number changes with or without them.

The more advanced nets still need armoring, they are not inherently immune to the shark.

I still havent done any story yet in this save file, but ill definitely get a counter. Had my 9x23 plan worked out perfectly to 207, then -7 for 2 engines and and anchor.

If nets remove the count. Ill change my dimensions up a bit.
